There are no physical descriptions of Jesus in the bible.vishes wrote:Isn't it written in the bible how big jesus was? Wasn't he 1m 40 or something? (heard this from some1 else and yes i believe him) Which was a normal size back then, right? But we're all taller now.
So there you have it, evolution in the bible.
Honestly though, if you want to believe in all that, go right ahead. No1 is gonna stop you. I just personally really can't understand why people would want to believe in all that nonsense
Nothing is going to fucking happen when you're dead. And do you know why? Because you'll be fuckin dead.
But if you want to believe that you go to heaven when you die, be my guest. Have fun with all your dead relatives.
i'll agree with you there. the differences in the greek txt vs the king james txt are pretty astounding as wellketamine wrote: The teachings of the Church are not the teachings of the Bible.

"The world" as people knew it in the Bible was much smaller than the one we know today. If there was a flood in their region, of course it would feel like "the whole world" was flooded, because they didn't know there was any more to the world.Pistonsbeneath wrote:depends what you class as evidence really
the bible is evidence
historians cobble together history with less that you see featured on documentaries
also like there is a concensus on pretty much all the recorded instances (interpretation may vary) within the bible between archeologists regardless of whether they believe jesus was the son of god or not
the great flood for one

first of all, i wouldn't really say that's true, but second of all, "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". it's only logical to demand more evidence of a man walking on water than something a bit less ridiculousPistonsbeneath wrote:depends what you class as evidence really

sure, but that's not necessarily proof for any of the other claims in the bible. there is significant evidence of a Mesopotamian flood and it only makes sense that a cataclysmic event like that would be mentioned in the bible and given an attempted explanation/interpretationthe great flood for one
i have noticed this lot more. Its almost as if atheism is just another religion.ketamine wrote:A better question is if you don't believe in God, why the h3ll do you care. You don't believe in Him, right?
I don't believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny... But I don't make JPGs of me texting "HI, I'm a Bunny-ist!" and start self righteous internet threads asking people why they eat Cadburry Chocolates.![]()
That image got me wondering too, now, why Athiests are such ^ssholes themselves.

"I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there's little good evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides. " - Carl Sagan

and for what its worth, i'm a gnostic atheist when it comes to religions with omnipotent, omniscient gods (because i think they can be ruled out through ontological reasoning), but an agnostic atheist towards ideas like pantheism, deism, etc. and i think a lot of people who call themselves atheists feel the same way.
