A mate of mine gave us the heads up on Distance's show a bit ago - same dude said Chef's was getting cut as well. As for the Youngsta show, from time to time it can get a little samey - people can only make quality tunes so fast! I certainly wouldn't say it's been boring for a year or so though. There's been a ton of innovation in that camp over the last year in fact. That b2b with Kryptic Minds last Sept was really exciting - so many fresh sounding tunes. And recently we've seen some interesting stuff coming from Proxima, Kaiju, Vicious Circle, etc. I remain confident that there's still room for expansion in that sound.

Just gotta wait for someone to raise the bar again like KM seem to do every so often.

Not suprised really, dubstep is a dead out genre. Has been for the past year. Only really need two dubstep shows on the station, I'd keep youngsta and n-type and get rid of the rest. Anti-social were at least different, the rest are doing the same thing.

nah n-tizzler switches it up and doesn't just play one boring minimal style, crises and blackdown have good shows too tbh. wouldn't bat an eyelid if plastician was dropped, but that won't happen, average mixing and piss poor selection.

Dunno if I'd class dusk and blackdown as dubstep, they should be kept though. N-type is probably the best dubstep show on rinse and should be kept. Crises has a 3 hour daytime show which I find kinda weird. I think him and plastician should go

Yunx show has to be safe just on dubplates and VIPs alone.. plus the mad respect everybody has for him in the scene. I agree his show does get a bit samey and I can't listen to his show for the whole 2 hours unless he has a guest on or its particularly good.. its because that 'sound' isn't as fresh as say the swamp sound. Not that I think swamp has a particular sound but you know what i mean.

I probably listen to rinse.fm podcasts more than I listen to music i've bought. Fill my little ipod up with them, wack them in the car, you get around 2 hours of brilliant music, no faffing around changing tracks or anything. bobs your uncle fannys your aunt.
There is a great variety as well, I'd hate to see Bok Bok, Hessle Audio, Numbers, Swamp81 (and straight outta swampton), oneman, or dbridge get shown the door. They are responsible for regularly exposing me to incredible new (and old) music, be it house, dnb, techno, dubstep. Not really one for Youngsta's show, I prefer a bit more variety and something a bit more upbeat, especially now the weather is getting better. I think I'd listen to more shows, but I already neglect my music collection enough!

I think DNB could be repped a bit better, it would be good to see Kasra/Critical getting a slot come winter.

Even though the Swamp sound just comes across as total 80's worship?

Yeah, can't be calling the Swamp sound fresh. It's a breath of fresh air in today's musical climate for sure and its an interesting re-interpretation of old sounds - but it's not got the originality of dubstep when that came about. There's no creativity ex nihilo sure, and dubstep didn't emerge from a vacuum. But it was a far more penetrating and original innovation of garage/dub and so on than Swamp is of techno/house, etc. And dubstep's still got so much room to develop even at this stage. While it's not exactly like one producer, one sound anymore there's still tons of places to go with it. The stuff Distance and co are coming out with atm is like nothing we've heard before imo. Goth-Trad's latest album as well, what even was that? Commodo/Lurka, those guys have the strangest sounding tunes - this Cuban-style Mala album should be an interesting listen too!

The swamp sound is certainly fresh for Rinse radio lol. You can't compare swamps sound to the start of dubstep, start of dubstep was mostly being made/played and pushed by new producers and djs which was being played to a small audience. Swamp were already established producers/djs and had a huge audience from the word go. Of course it isn't going to be as fresh as dubstep was lol.

May not be fresh now cause its been around for 2 years but compare it to all the other shows and genres on Rinse its certainly one of the freshest sounds in my opinion... definitely in comparrison to the Yunx sound... which is what i said, i never said swamp sound was fresh.. i said in comparrison to the yunx sound its fresh.

^ Yeah fair play if that's your view man. Mostly I was responding to the people in the thread who think dubstep in general has spoiled.

If it wasn't for Youngsta most of the tunes he plays wouldn't even exist, he has managed to create a scene or rather a sub-genre which is centred around his tastes! If you don't like it you have to at least respect it! Anyway, if you listen through his sets from the last 10 years you can clearly hear an evolution and subtle progression in the sound he is playing, he is always moving forward but maybe just not in massive strides all the time. His circle of producers has slowly but surely been expanding and some of the tracks he's been dropping recently by the likes of Amit, Proxima, Consequence, Truth etc etc etc are very fresh in my mind not to mention the production levels (sound engineering etc) are/is much higher, in general, than that found in other genres (IMO).

I guess it just depends on what's important to you personally. IMO no other DJ on Rinse comes close to his mixing ability, he is a master on the EQ and his sets have a consistency I personally find lacking on other shows. I keep up with all genres and personally hear just as much stale and rehashed ideas currently being pushed in Grime, Funky, D'n'B, 'Swamp' shit etc etc. It actually makes me laugh how people say 'Dubstep is dead' and then waffle on about 'future' Garage and some Acid House throwback shit! Basically it's all been done before so stop obsessing over whether something is 'new' or 'fresh' as the likelyhood is, it's not, and if you think it is, it's probably because you weren't around the last time it happened. Rinse should have room on their schedule for a bit of everything and seen as Yunx is the only DJ playing a lot of the tunes he drops I wouldn't say his show is the problem really but then again I wouldn't have got rid of Distance or Anti Social so what do I know?! :)

Top post. I can't really find much to disagree with. You still get some unbelievable Grime though.

It's a moot point regarding the possibility of the Youngsta show getting dropped anyways ain't it - I was under the impression Ammunition Promotions owned Rinse as well as FWD, Tempa etc.?
