And if you're gonna come back and chat shit just to be contrarian, please be sure you've actually read the three links in the quote above first.
Not trying to chat shit or be contrarian honestly, I just find that statement really funny. It's a phone, I wouldn't expect or want it to rival Cubase. It just depends on the particular user. I see no point in things like that myself. I'd prefer they make communication features and security the absolute #1 priority.
Also, you're right. There's only a couple of music based apps for blackberry, like Spinfuse, and they are limited sampler based programs because it's very hard to impossible to get past the security to do those low level things.

One thing when you quoted yourself that did bother me though was this:

Open source software often exceeds its commercial counterparts. Obviously not all of it, but a lot does. I've just always been a big supporter of open source projects. Most of the software I use is open source and free, and have noticed it's usually PEBKAC when it comes to problems as admittedly a lot of open source and freeware takes a nerd to get working right since it's free (little to no support, sometimes no binaries etc).

Sorry if I seemed snickety in that - it's just that there's so much kneejerkism about this stuff, especially with young males for some weird reason - "no, fuck you cigarette! My ____ is better than your _____!" ...you know what I mean.

And yeah, a phone isn't going to replace a real DAW anytime soon - but when inspiration strikes it's nice to be able to jot down ideas, beats and melodies mostly, and then take it home and dump it in the DAW to get fleshed out. I've been on the road a lot for the last year and it's been really nice to be able to sketch out ideas for entire songs while I'm sitting in an airport or riding the bus to work. But even beyond that - the sound quality & feature set from some of the apps - esp. Animoog - is as good as or better than hardware and software synths I have paid good money for in the past.

I mean, the fact that I can easily produce a full tune on my fookin' phone - and then create a music video to go with it - and have it all turn out not that bad? It's crazy! You kids take this shit for granted but man, 20 years ago you were happy to carry around something [like a Yamaha QY20] that weighed 10 times as much and was 10 times as large as a cell phone - and that thing just made MIDI music, and without samples or fx or anything fancy - and here we are now with full production suites in our fuckin' cell phones... not to mention all the other things they're capable of now.

The way I see it, it's a portable studio that happens to be able to take/make phone calls too. :6:

Nah not snickety.
Haha, I got my start on a Yamaha QY70 so I definitely know what you mean. I wish I were a kid. :(
I know what you're getting at though, and I'll admit iPhone has it locked when it comes to music apps. I actually have one somewhere someone gave me, as well as an Android. Neither have ever been activated, but I plan to check out some of these music apps now.

I can see the pros in having the ability to make music on your phone, but I can't remember the last time I had such downtime, and if I do it's in no place where I can concentrate. :/

When the first PSP came out, I did run a lot of the music homebrew but it was more gimmick if anything.
There's been some PSVita hacks and exploits, but so far all I've seen is proof of concept software like Hello World.

Fully.

However, (I know I sound like a bruk rekkid) Nanostudio really is pure dope. There's nothing I know of on any other mobile platform that comes close.

I mean, regardless of how you feel about the style being played in this example, the fact that all of the synthesis and sequencing and FX and everything are being handled by the processor on a m'fuggin phone?! It's nanners.
