nowaysj wrote:Actually think people would be better served starting on simple hardware. I know it is more expensive and far more limited, but in fact, those are pluses. There are many other pluses as well. Learning compression by turning knobs will get u a lot further than reading about it on a forum and watching some type of graphical display on a vst, but whatevers. There are many paths up the mountain.
Even a new Electribe + monitors would be cheaper than DAW/Interface/Monitors? Some kind of groove box like that would pretty much let someone write a whole track if they got creative.

^ downside of hardware, the cocksucker that stole my er-1 and es-1. Much harder to steal software :)

Rat bastard!

@Squarepusher quote: That is another reason to love hardware. For me at least, I never felt an obligation about like that about a software program (beyond my DAW). For whatever reason it's very easy for me to buy a piece of software and never learn much about it. Buy a new box, bet your ass I'll explore the shit out that thing. :Q:

I can confirm that after a certain amount of encouragment from myself, my friend has purchased the DSI Tempest. He should have it tomorrow... :4:

I'm gonna sample the shit out of it as soon as he gets it... :cornlol: :corndance: :z:

Upload when you do?

I want a drum machine, got a few possibles. Don't know if I could justify parting with that much for the tempest at the moment, it does look amazing though!

EDIT: watching a few videos now, becoming much more justifiable...

And here we have a classic example of gear lust in action :a:

:6:

Was it in this thread deadly talking about square? Really is a major bummer bringing new gear into your setup. With that said, still need a mixer and 4track reel to reel. Accepting donations in the bay area.

How many people use outboard gear such a comps/limiters or exciters? If so what do you have and what are your views?

I'll make a little sample pack for everyone yeah.

I purchased a Roland TR-505 a couple of months or so ago because it was cheap on eBay. It's currently at circuitbenders getting modded: http://www.circuitbenders.co.uk/drummachine/TR505.html

It'll turn an otherwise pretty limited rompler drum machine into a glitchy dream.

I wouldn't exactly call it 'lust', but it's pretty exciting... :corndance:
