We've also have Kapsalon. You can buy it at the doner shops.

Pic:

It's basically
- fries at the bottom.
- meat (chicken or lam)
- cheese
- lettuce
- garlicsauce and/or chili sauce.

It contains about 2500 kcal, and it's great after you went boozing.

I prefer mine without cheese tho.

I went a couple of years ago and the Mexican haze from Dampkring was easily the best weed I've ever smoked.

I'm going with my bird, a couple of mates and their birds in December. Can't wait, gonna actually drink a coffee this time, it was sweltering when we went before

Cheeky Monday's at Winston's supposed to be good, haven't made it there yet but heard good things over the years. [Classic] Noodlanding at Paradiso on Wednesday & Thursday used to be pretty fun, but the last time I've been there was ages ago.

the best place to smoke, they don't pressure you to buy weed or drinks, drinks are stupidly cheap anyway, i get so comfortable in there that i almost fall asleep every single time. A few Dutch guys we met at a cafe recommended it to us and it was worth the journey, if you get a bike it's a sick little journey and there's the nicest park ever round the corner

^ Looks EXACTLY my cup of tea!
Pretty similar (tho a bit more hype) was the Rokerij. I think there's about 4 different branches around the city, but the one I went to at least (couldn't possibly tell you which one) was amazing, cushions and low tables, crazy Indian shit all over the walls, banging Chai tea....I usually only smoke hash cus grade prangs me out, but the Rokerij's home strain was phenomenal, smoked an enormous king L and just felt wonderful. Lovely.

The best record shops are Rush Hour, Distortion, Killa Cutz, Concerto and Record Friend. Waxwell is sick too (they don't have too much electronic music though, mostly hiphop).

If you want to go clubbing check out Melkweg, OT301, Trouw, Paradiso & Club Up.

And as Njamimars said, definitely go for some Kapsalon.

woah really? damn used to go there all the time they had the best prices.

OP If you want good prices and a big selection of weed go to De Dampkring, they have 2 locations one up north near the train station and one down south.

I've never liked hanging out in coffee shops, way too many horribly annoying people.. you will see what i mean. There is one place though that is owned by the same people as De Dampkring which is called Tweede Kamer. This place is really low key and tends to have an older crowd than most coffee shops which bring the annoyance factor down a lot, and they have the same excellent menu and prices as De Dampkring because they are run by the same people.

Stay away from Greenhouse and Barneys and places like that, their prices are a total rip-off. Too bad Rokerij are closed they were my favorite.

I'm BACK!

Yeah, I totally understand now - way too many assholes
there just looking to get fucked up rather than people
who are going there for a good time. Saw some blokes
there from oop-norf throw a mate into the canal (stinking
of weed) in the middle of the night and then subsequently
all get arrested. That was quite funny. De Dampkring is a
place I won't visit again (in the future.)

Dolphins is the place to be. Their place was jokes - I loved
the tacky underwater decor. Took a muffin to the hotel and
had the deepest buzz i've had in AGES. The smoke was good
and it wasn't busy at all. It was cozy and comfortable.

De Bijenkorf sq. was immense on the 29th Nov. They stuck
on some fesitval thing - and I was completely blown away
by that. Suspending a bloke 50ft in the air on a bike with an
electric violin and an umbrella! Simply brilliant.

Visited Hannke's Boom - that's a nice bar/restaurant - i expect
it will be a lot better when the weather is warmer!

Also went to the sea palace for Dinner too - that place looks like
an extra set from Rush Hour.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Amsterdam now - So much so that i'm already
looking for citizenship and have started learning Dutch. Met an
amazing bunch of ex-pats that completely reccomended it and
spoke about how they would never move back to the UK, and
how the job market is easier to break than in the UK - the social
housing rents are great and it takes 10 mins to travel in on bike
from West to central.

i would love to live in amsterdam post-uni, i've been to holland so many times now, mostly Den Haag, but every time it blows me away how amazing it is. There will be the things we don't see like in every country, I travelled to some of the bigger estates on the outskirts last time I was there and it wasn't particularly nice, but compared to some estates in the UK it was lol. I would like to learn Dutch so I don't seem like a typically ignorant Englishman when I travel there, but the majority of Dutch people speak as good English as me, I have a few Dutch friends on Facebook and they write every status in English, there are even some university courses taught entirely in English at some Dutch universities. Legal weed would be a bonus, but i don't care that much, it's far more the people and the culture, and if like you say the job prospects are better, that's a big incentive.

The language thing was a complete eye opener to me.
Everyone I met spoke fluent English, Dutch & Flemmish.

It made my English and Punjabi and broken French (GCSE)
look shite in comparison. One thing I noticed was that outside
every train station we passed, there was a huge college.
Everything just seems really structured and logical in Holland.
I loved it. After a day I had learned the names of all the canals
and from that I could navigate myself around the city. I only
looked at maps to get the names of places and then just off
I went...
I managed to pick up basic phrases within two days - hello,
goodbye, thankyou, can I have that with onions? etc etc.

When we went out of the city towards Gein, It didn't look
THAT bad, but you'll only ever know a place once you get there.
I was just really impressed with the politics of the place - there
seems to be a great emphasis on social construction - from the
housing and planned living to the 55/30% housing associations,
the money spent on infrastructure, etc etc.

The thing about coffee shops is, that if you treat them like bars,
they're fine. Go, have a smoke, enjoy it, and go home. If you
treat them as legal places to get fucked up and binge, that's the
problem.
As far as I can gather, the dutch philosophy is one of respect and
tolerance - but just don't take the piss with it or the police come
down very hard on you.

It was such a great experience. I actually HATED the idea of coming
home.

ye the Dutch smoke and drink completely differently, they'll sit there and smoke a spliff over 20 minutes, it's much more like enjoying a pint than getting pissed, last time i was there i saw two people outside a pub arguing, then i realised one of them was English and he shouted 'this aint how we do it in England!' before stumbling away. It's quite embarrassing. We also saw a group of guys wearing pink stag do t-shirts with 69 on the back and names like gaz, singing football songs and generally being really hammered. I apply for internships next year and there's one working for Nike in Hilversum that I intend to go for, that would be a pretty sweet job to land.

Amsterdam isn't the Netherlands, though! It's not 'respect and tolerance' but pretend-respect and pretend-tolerance. The actual Dutch philosophy is 'talk to people different from you with a smile, but try to avoid them at all cost'. You should stick around the big cities like Amsterdam/Rotterdam/Utrecht/The Hague and mostly the centers. Those are the really international, multicultural and kinda bohemian and TOLERANT bits of NL. But most of the country is pretty backwards and really narrowminded and cultrually like behind 10 years compared to the rest of western Europe. I moved from the East to Utrecht some time ago and it's like I'm not even in the same country.

Flanders is a lot more chill and tolerant, culturally, than NL is. But if I had it my way, I'd live in Amsterdam and just visit Flanders a lot.

Not tryna shit in anybody's cereal though :p Amsterdam IS awesome. But other than the Randstad (all those big cities I mentioned) it's reaaally unrepresentative of NL as a whole.

I may be a little hard on the Netherlands, though. I'm sure that outside of the big metropolitan areas in the UK or anywhere in Europe, it's probably pretty similar. But NL is such a small country and Amsterdam versus Randstad versus the rest of the country is just a world of difference. Shouldn't be a biggie, though. I mean, you don't really have a reason to leave Amsterdam that much cuz that's where everything in NL happens anyway and you're super well connected to the rest of Europe.
