Simple as that really, if you wana make money make midrange durrrbstep, go to the states and tour collages. Skrilly apparently approaches $200k for some gigs. Benga might not be on quite the same level in terms of popularity, but you can get collage gigs pretty much every night, so (just talking terms of scale and making up numbers:
average $20k a gig x 5 a week average x 30 weeks touring a year = 3 million dolla.
Skrillex made 25 million last year (apparently) so i don't think its too hard to believe Benga is making this kinda money.

Re: I am Benga : The Movie
Mmm must say Benga is therefore under-rated if that noisy fuck is doing better than him but fuck it, integrity is worth more when you`re dead.
Anyway, in the meantime, I know who I`d buy a beer at the bar (and their records)

Edit: no point in derailing the thread into a Skrillex argument like every thread on DSFtest recordings wrote:Mmm must say Benga is therefore under-rated if that noisy fuck is doing better than him but fuck it, integrity is worth more when you`re dead.

Re: I am Benga : The Movie
Mmmm.... Watched some interview with deadmau5 (he actually had someting to say this time) talking about how much people are making in the mainstream electronic scene. And he was saying something about how some magazine was ranking dJ's about how much they were were "worth", and deamau5 was "worth" 11 million. And he sort of laughed at that figure and commented about it, as if it were ridiculously blown up.Lye Form wrote:America.Lichee wrote:does he actually have a maserati? So if Deadmau5 isn't "worth" 11 million, whatever that means, I doubt skrilly made 25mil in a year...

I think its net profit or sumat? Im not up on my money shit, but i got the impression thats how much they made from shows and selling music, but they dont actually get all that money seeing as they get jets to places, live on swag buses for half the year, money goes to venues, promoters etc.

You're right, almost every producer changes his style, its just a matter of timeLichee wrote:this, i would imagine it's all a marketing plug to lead up to his new album and push him headfirst into the charts, Skream has at least kept his roots if stringently with a Medi release, the Skreamizm nights and some tunes like Vacilitate that do go mad when they're dropped, Benga has basically cut all ties and his tunes are barely recognisable. It's a shame, Diary of an afro warrior is the first dubstep album i ever got and without a doubt my favourite, i remember pausing his masterclass videos to copy his albino settings loltest recordings wrote:Maybe it`s a `gonzo` film![]()
Could be interesting, I wonder why him and not Skream though
Having said that sometimes the change is good, listening to some of some peoples (eg Joker and Benga) first tunes they werent really up to scracth with the stuff they produced when they wer at their best. Benga (i think) even said "the first ones were... shady"
but most of the time it all just goes down the pan, coki especially
