i dont really know anyone who drops that much on any items of clothing so guess i'm a mug or i just know normal people

someone get Gwa in here nowpkay wrote:Men shouldn't spend over $100 on anything but Jordan's, Brons, Cole Hans, a watch, a chain, or a suit.
If your sweater or hoodies is over $100 you a dickhead... no hoodies is that fly
If your button up shirt or dress sweater is over $100 you a dickhead ... Ralph Lauren is your bench mark for cost effectiveness
If your pants are over $100 you a dickhead. This isn't thread count on.bedding and if you're paying for distressed look you're a fucking fraud
If you're paying over $100 for chinos you a dickhead. Wear fucking dickies and.move the fuck on
the only reason i, personally dont spend money in the fashion you describe (GEDDIT HUR HUR) is that i dont have the disposable income to fritter on things that cost dough if i want to buy them cos i like them
i've never spent over a tonne on a hoodie, the most dough i've ever spent on a shirt is a ralphy and it was less than a tonne, i wear faded clothes because i got them free cos my dad used to run a levi's seconds shop back in the 80's and i have ripped faded stone washed jeans that i've worn almost every weekend since i was 15 from said shop, i have chino's which cost less than a tonne BUT if i had the money to drop on more expensive clothes then fuck yes. i would do it. cos if i can afford it, and i like it, im buying it.
Re: Nice clothes shops/brands?
The question is why you doing it? Women spend money on clothes because it's part of their identity.
As a dude, If you're spending more money trying to look like something special, that's money you're taking away from making yourself something special.
Say slick, stay clean, use your money to make money or pour into your dreams. $150 on a shirt..... that's a VST, that's a few shares of a stock, that's 5 2 sided 10" dubplates or 4 12"s. That's 10 records shipped, or 70 mp3's, or a vst controller, or 2 effects pedals, or an e-bow and some audio cables, or a years domain space, or something else you can use to invest in your life instead of a lifestyle accessory.
Point being you can accomplish being fashionable on a budget and invest larger money into longer term investments.

Re: Nice clothes shops/brands?
i live well... make far more money than I need but could never rationalize spending over $100 on jeans or a shirt even if I have the money. I was always raised that anything over $100 should be an investment. Shoes last a long time and quality is more efficient than cheap items. A watch can last 20 years and appreciates in value if of quality.noam wrote:you missed my point

Besides man makes the suit, suit doesn't make the man. If you're trying to buy yourself into attention, admiration, respect, whatever then you're a buster. Plain and simple. If there's something you think you can accomplish outside of a tshirt and jeans or some dress slacks and a ralph lauren shirt then you're compensating and are going to be found out eventually be it a job or a girl or whatever.
Re: Nice clothes shops/brands?
a suit can make a man, thats just a bullshit saying
you're oversimplifying things
you think a high court judge can turn up in a tshirt and jeans and command the same respect as he does wearing his full wig and gown?
this is really silly, im out
last word, if you can afford it and you like it buy it and dont give no shits what anyone else says cos life's too short to worry about spending money you have and have earned on things you like and want

doesn't your continent spend the majority of their waking lives thinking of ways to give americans shit for doing this exact thing?noam wrote: last word, if you can afford it and you like it buy it and dont give no shits what anyone else says cos life's too short to worry about spending money you have and have earned on things you like and want
Spending money on superficial shit doesn't check itself at the door when you walk into H&M or Macys. It's still superficial... like buying a hummer, or a chain with your face on it wearing a chain with your face on it
If it's above and beyond the need its above and beyond the need

I stopped reading after this. I'm sorry, come again. It's part of my identity? Was I shopping when they talked about this in Marslow, Erikson, or Freud's stages cos if that's the case, I'm in my adulthood and probably still have issues. I don't recall this being part of my identity. *snap fingers x4 in a Z*pkay wrote:The question is why you doing it? Women spend money on clothes because it's part of their identity.

Maybe you need to reword this or explain it more for the 3%* of the ladies in the forum. Or not cos it's not that important.
*Made up. No equation solved.

now that you've descended back to earth lets think about things women have to deal with that men do not that may cause them to identify more with clothes
1) Professional inequality In the workplace
2) Oversexualization/objectifying of women and either playing into it or nullifying it
3) Mens expectations of women and womens (the majority) need to play to them
4) The fact women don't wear the same size all month long and/or have physical reasons for wearing different styles of clothes (being gingerly here)
5) The fact women can become pregnant
6) The fact most women have curves and men do not
Women are more tied to their wardrobe for social reasons. Whether its right or not is not the topic here its fucking reality. Being aware of this reality doesn't make it any less truthful. If you're the exception who is comfortable with no makeup, tshirt, jeans, and shelltoes good on you but I'd argue that the majority of the women are not.... down to primitive tribal cultures and historical depiction of women. I didn't just invent this ideal for the sake of argument.
Again not my personal opinion on what women should be doing, just acknowledgement of social structure, and if you read my thread, trying to ignore said structure.
Re: Nice clothes shops/brands?
further confirmation can be found in the fact that womens clothes and cosmetics cost way more than mens for equal fabric, skill, labor involved in clothing because demand is higher
