I just check my mixes on systems with more low end, then adjust in the studio. The accuracy of the mids, the stereo image and the clear non-fatiguing highs coupled with the over-all unforgiving clarity of the D5s are all worth more to me than monitors that go down to 40hz, especially in an untreated room.

Not to mention we have so many visual aids for mixing these days.

Yep. 25-50 hz is only an octave anyway. It's pretty easy to get the low end right after referencing on a couple other systems and checking your spectrum analyzer. Don't even bother with that lowest bass range unless your room is treated really well. In a bare room you're better off with monitors that have a sub roll off. In my opinion it's better to know there's a gentle bass slope and account for it, than to have a bunch of bass resonance contributing to the room's decay and muddying up your monitoring environment.

When I switched from Rokit 6s (pukepukepuke) to my D5s (best upgrade ever...), I lost around around 10hz of bass response. It actually cleared up a lot of mud in my monitoring environment. I was actually quite shocked at that and other differences. The D5s are in the exact same place as the Rokits were, as I use monitor stands and didn't move them at all.

So you're telling me there's no really need for low end in a untreated room?

What if I get the D5 instead of the Yamahas? I guess I could just touch the cone or something to check if the sub is good with the song, right?

My personal belief is that, yes, in an untreated room lots of low end will cause more problems than it's worth. The whole "touching the monitors" thing doesn't really tell you anything IMO. Because touching isn't hearing.

It's up to you. Learning your monitors and checking on variety of systems is road you need to go down whether you have a treated room or not IMO

So since we're talking about the monitors only, I guess the other things are fine, like headphones, keyboard and interface, right?
