Yeah, I can see how I sounded. Wasn't trying to be negative or overly defendant. Lack of sleep I guess.legend4ry wrote:Just for the record. No ones attacking you - its just blunt advice.
If you want help don't question everyone's input negativity.

Re: Clipping as intentional FX on drums
I soft clip my master (it doesn't actually go in to the red, so it's not digital clipping per se) and just mix my drums really really loud. It works wonders in tunes with not many elements, but I'd never do it in a dubstep tune.
Re: Clipping as intentional FX on drums
That sounds awful but clipping can give you a bit of extra headroom with no impact on the sound. Just trim off some of the excess transient, almost surgical

WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCKKKKSharmaji wrote:got a bass sound last week that was a stylophone into a mic pre adding 65db of gain (totally in the red), into an EQ pushed so hard that it started to self-modulate, into a distressor set on "nuke," pushed totally into the red, and then dialed back at the output to record at a normal level.
sounded fucking great.
distortion is a big, big part of sound design.
btw i dig that crapped-out white noise SD. good stuff.
