Monitors for Neurofunk?

It's because of how they looked and what colour they were, plus they were (comparatively) cheap and well marketed.

They're like the Beats By Dre of the monitor world...cool to have and you notice them in the videos, but once you know a little more about what you're doing you wouldn't touch them again.

I'd give another +1 for the Adam AX and F series, personally. But I doubt you'd need anything bigger than an A5 without first treating your room.

I forgot I even made this thread. Anyways, I've looked into monitors for months, but just haven't come across a pair that covers everything (imo). I'm not wanting monitors specifically for neuro. I just put that in the subject as that is what I would primarily be producing on the monitors. I've learned quite a bit in my months of research, but I was really just looking for a community opinion. I know of the Equator D5's, and have pondered for a while if I'll get them, but I've also been stuck on a few other different monitors. When it's your first pair of monitors, and when they cost so much (even budget), you don't really want to make the wrong choice, even if it's just barely off. Granted, I hate it when people ask stupid questions, as I do them making me a hypocrite, but honestly, we all pondered the same question at one point or another.

Pretty accurate actually. Maybe you just have a different definition of accurate than everyone else? That would explain why you love the Rokits.

seems a bit silly to say monitors arent supposed to sound great, and it depends on how loosely you base my statement on what im trying to say.

people are rude because they want to be.

theres obviously no common ground here between us 'producers', which saddens me, as we're supposed to resemble some form of a like-minded community.
im quite happy with the clarity i get from my mixes, but i cant afford to rush out and buy every set of monitors on the market just to see how they sound, i just did several weeks of research in terms of what i had available to me in my price bracket and i picked the gear with the best specs from the selection i had available to choose from/from what i could afford. same way OP has done here, but without the douchebaggery involved.

i mean the KRK's sound clean and they sound flat and they do the trick for producing at my level, and i dont feel im at the stage where i need to go out and fork out more money for the same thing just one notch up on the 'quality' scale.

and as i said, im looking for a 5" set of monitors a few months down the track so i can make some better attempts at reference mixing on a smaller system, but im looking to get a budget set like the presonus eris range because thats all i can afford.

and the only reason im 'arguing' against you lot is in regards to the supposed 'fact' that these monitors are complete shit (according to all of you) and that i literally just asked some of you to present some of the apparently abundant information youve read to back up your findings and opinions on the matter. and STILL i'm yet to see anything. and google searching hasnt returned anything nearly even 1/16th as negative as the posters on this thread have been.

Rokits are the worst sounding monitor I have heard in a studio environment. All over the place.


The funniest was when I went to a uni house party as this producer had them sat 5 inches from his macbook on his flimsy MDF desk. All you could hear was FNDDDUURRRRRRRRRRRRNNNRUUUUUUUNRUUUUUUUUUUwobwobFNDUUUUURRRRRRRRNNNNNN but alas that was his poor setup rather than the monitor - but it was the perfect Rokit picture.

Switching between rp8s and equator d8s at SCAN and the difference was night and day. Think I actually said it was like having a thick blanket put over your head when we switched to the krks. Id read a lot about the scooped mids issue with KRKs but until I was there in the room I didnt realise how bad they were, didnt expect such a severe dip. Listening back to my old tunes I can hear so many random things that I wouldve chopped out with EQ if Id heard them properly. The thing with studio monitors is you dont want them to sound great, you want them to give an honest representation of what your putting through them.

p.s. rokits DONT have hyped frequencies, id love to see some legitimate testing/documentation to back that up. as far as i know/based on the extensive research i did before buying my monitors i believe that statement to be rubbish.

It's more like very popular opinion. I can objectively prove they're not flat. If you want proof they're shit, you're going to have to listen to the tidal wave of anecdotal evidence from people who have A/B'd them with other similar price monitors and found them to be demonstrably worse. But I guess all those people are just jaded and ignorant right?

That is a bit much tbf, Beats By Dre are terrible and very expensive.

Rokits are OK and priced OK.

I did buy rokits and kinda regret not going for something a bit more expensive now...

I actually have some beats (my friend is a monster rep so I got them free), and there not terrible. They are really, really hyped in the low end but the mids and highs sound nice.

There build quality however is a fucking joke. As is there customer service. If I had actually paid for these things I would be pissed. There also really uncomfortable.

These days I'm using a pair of Shure srh440's and there much nicer.

I've barely read anything, I'm probably reigniting this whole thing but I just wanted to say that my monitors sound cold, lifeless and sterile. And that it's my job to make the music coming out of it sound lively, vibrant and pretty.
