There is some demand but it's met by those DJs respective own nights.
Seen Kahn/Neek/Vessel etc. in the basement for £5, midweek with international headliner and just over 50 in the building.
Bristol is fully techno/house/post-140 now, dubstep is sooo passé.

Basement of the Exchange is due to shut end of January too.

Keep it experiMENTAL.

not saying i want some throwback night where only vintage dmz gets played, young echo has 50 people in the place cos they play world music and kraftwerk at their night...assume that's what you were talking about, still feel like there are producers making fresh music in "dubstep" and there's a lot more making forward thinking music indebted to it/with the same vibe (like 130 stuff or new punch drunk/livity sound).
i don't really know what kay has in mind anyway i'm just saying what i'd personally like to see

As for feedback i'm not to sure, i have problems with feedback at my home set up. Maybe move the monitors back a bit? or get the sound guy to EQ some bass out of it.
there arent any monitors atm. yeah would do that eq but the feedback only really seems to appear noticably in intros & breakdowns with no bassline (intro to Igloo was a prime feedback culprit last night), when a bassy kick or b-line came in the feedback would go.so we just had to be on the ball with the low eq on the mixer.

Will try and get our hands on some concrete slabs for next time cheers. saw some people swearing by Ikea granite chopping boards?

To be honest i wouldnt want genre to be a defining thing at all, experiMENTAL'z good enough and you should be free to play what you want. The more important thing should be building a community of producers who could stand on their own two feet without having to resort to booking kahn or pev or whoever. Let em do their thing, we can build our own :w: too

Thinking along fairly similar lines. There's not much point in trying to run Kahn-style nights coz he already runs a fair few nights and I enjoy them. Loads of producers and DJs just starting out, why not give them the chance to play out on a semi open-decks basis. Heck, if the night were to involve just ninjas alone that'd be more than a year's worth of sessions.

Ultimately, I would quite like to set up an open-mike/decks bar or my own. But realistically that's going to be a ways off.

arranging nights can be fun and almost always is, even if no one turns up. u can still have a laugh fucking around and playing your favourite tunes on a system.. its always great experience. do as much of the stuff by urself so it's more rewarding and u learn all the stuff. i think the hardest part is marketing. you should never rely on word of mouth or that your night is so cool everyone knows it. u really have to push it to people, invite just about everyone and then some

I'm trying to start something running in liverpool atm that put's more of an emphasis on people having fun and a good time than it being about people coming because it's wow such underground. The way i'm thinking of rolling it out is by doing a few parties with the same people under a name that are invite only, hopefully if they are good word get's spread and people want to come to them so we build hype that way without having to accrue any costs of hiring a venue out until we are sure people would pay to party somewhere bigger. We have our own lighting rig and a faily decent soundsystem (that is probably the first thing to be upgraded). Does this sound like a good way to start things off or is it quite idealised for me to think people will talk to their friends about what is essentially a houseparty and make them want to come?

some mates are doing the same thing here. a house that's also a studio. sometimes it's streamed. not sure how strict the policy is, but it's pretty much the same group always #truheadz
did a few club nights as well that had quite a decent turnout with little hype

keep it 4 #tru headz imo
can u do a test one off in somewhere unusual but with sick sound and sell beers from desk or something?
get some other #tru headz involved
spend as little money as possible get everyone playing for free

ultiatwly i think youre going to have to outlay some cash to begin with as well and take a risk.
i know a lot of #tru headz play for costs if its a good nigth and has the right vibes or ur trying to do something out of the normal bro nigths. no harm is asking for favours and seeing who is up for it.
easy in a group and better to get people excited

facebook is wack and so are logos.
