Punk was gestated in an environment of social unrest, young people with no job prospects, recession.

If you consider the ages of most of these people, you'll soon realize that scrounging off mum and dad, while working part time at the local petshop to fund their weekly substance abuses, puts them out of affectation's way.

Punk did and still does even if it's become known enough to have developed a "Pop" side. Deep House is about as apolitical a genre as I can imagine... Punk may have strayed to various degrees from its worthy roots, but even in 2014 there are people making truly Punk music under the Punk umbrella. Pussy Riot are a punk band.

See previous point...the lack of political 'message' behind the scene is second fiddle to the fans of said scene wanting to go out and enjoy themselves. Shorter cycle, less gestation, therefore fewer core ideals other than wanting to dance, get fucked up and laid are really abounding for it's followers.

By those points almost all 'youth' music could be described as punk... it's not punk's audience that made it punk, it was its musicians and the messages they brought. The angst of the disenfranchised youth has been embedded in musical movements since the turn of the 20th century... most great genres of music can be traced back to someone who was clearly having a properly shit time of it... it's not the angst that makes punk punk any more than angst made the New Romantics punk. It's the complete disregard for musical and sartorial standards in the face of getting an anti-establishment message across that makes punk punk. Real punk bands (not punk-style pop bands) are still doing that... Pussy Riot are *shit* but they're one of the best punk bands of my lifetime. Blink 182 are an incredibly effective pop band who have clearly been influenced by punk, but they're not punk. Saying "Fuck the man" isn't punk today because everyone's been saying "Fuck the man" for nearly 4 decades. Punk evolves to fight new battles after it's won them for the mainstream... if you're still singing "God Bless The Queen" in 2014, you're most likely not a punk. You might even be an X Factor contestant. If you're getting locked up for a guerrilla protest gig at your local Olympics, you probably ARE punk.

Breakcore definitely felt punk for a few years.

Agent 47 also has fuck all on Sid Vicious. Billie Joe Armstrong or Travis Barker, perhaps...

They seem like the complete opposite genres in regards to deep house people seem more like they just want to fit in and follow whatever is currently hot at the moment while wearing their expensive clothes.(I have nothing against expensive clothing) They don't feel the need to revolt/ stand up against anything and feel happy with their middle class life.

Punk is quite awful, Gareth.
It's so melodically bland that you can't realistically say that you'd appreciate it for its musicality, and you of all people would be the first to scream "fukkin entitled kids" if it were to come out now.

With regard to the musicality, you can draw the same conclusion from the fact that this thread is filled with posts discussing only the rebellious merit of the music, which is conveyed in lyricism.
