dubstep with dnb tempo?

so tempo to most listeners [those not counting the bpm, just dancing and having fun] is a whole different thing - don´t limit your selves!
and for that headnodshit that make you wanna bounce, it didn´t start out at 140 bpm . . . or 70 bpm . . .
bigup every one making bass and drums no matter tempo, style or definitions . . . as long s its funky!

170bpm gets a bad rap these days.

Admittedly I think DNB is too fast nowadays but there is things you can achieve at that speed which you can't at 140- and vice versa obv.

I just think the things that made dubstep so good in the first place where connected to its tempo, its space...

cant agree more . . .
but to me the 83 electro sound had some of the same feeling of space as some of the new dubstep tunes, so it cant be just the tempo!
thats why we need the variation!

Actually If I hadn't run Bombardment of Saturn through virtual dj to see the speed I would have thought it was actually slower in bpm than most of the rest of dubstep. However, the program clearly indicates that the song is 176 bpm. I/it might be wrong though.

Also, there is the very opposite extreme. Anstam - Brom 1 or Tes La Rok - Mental Blcok are both approximately 104-105 bpm. Again, as spiro has suggested, this should be taken as a lesson that the tempo is not really that much of a deal as long as the tune is proper enough. It probably just makes it harder to mix.

watch them programs counting the bpm . . .
don´t trust them if they tell you bombardement of saturn is 176 . . .
think its quite close to 140/70 . . .

Definitely wrong - perhaps if you stop relying on dodgy software you'll be able to discern the tempo just by use of your ears

Dubstep is 135-145, I'm sorry but this thread is waste. DnB is DnB, Dubstep is Dubstep, how difficult is it to understand? It's unnecessary to categorise music, but I understand the convenience and I'm all for it. Why the fuck would anyone wanna try to get any deeper?

Amit does not make dubstep. He makes DnB. DnB predates Dubstep, so why try and claim that the big brother is imitating the little brother? Amit can make a tune at 140 and it'll be dubstep. His 175 stuff is DnB.

You can do the same stuff at fast tempos but imo some of the stranger riddems make more sense at a slower tempo. Also I like to use 32nd note patterns in dubstep. At 170 32nd notes just sound like a blur.

I liked some of parson's tracks and bought Escapee Planes - Smell Triggered Memory.
also horza's recommendation, "density - who wants some" is a fat dnb track with a dubstep feel. I will have to hunt this one down.

some of you say that 170 bpm is always dnb. this might be correct, but nevertheless tunes like pinch's pepper spray sound more like dubstep to me. I think this thread shows that there are tunes which could be classified as both dnb and dubstep. a lot of the discussion here seems to be about genre definitions. I don't really care if you want to call it dubstep, dnb, dubstep at dnb tempo, dnb with dubstep influcences, etc.
my main intention was to find out, which tunes by dubstep producers could fit in a dnb set. i'm not so deep into dubstep, so some "dnb" tunes by dubstep producers might slip under my radar.

now some of you have suggested tracks by dnb producers. that's ok too if I don't know them already. in the end, if a tune has 170/85 bpm, sparse beats, no 2step pattern and a heavy sub and in general reminds you of dubstep, just post it in this thread.

well i wasn't even talking about shifting the pitch after the tune is done. i just meant changing the bpm in the sequencer
