@ benjy- use some simple records. Not some clippity cloppy El-B 2 step with synchopated rhythm or anything like that.

Get some 4x4 doubles as these are a pleasure to mix with just to learn. If you want something dubstep related, can't think of anything off the top of my head, but something simple which is repetitive with clear kicks and snares, avoiding samples if possible. I actually learnt to beat juggle with 2 double records first thing I did before beatmatching tho, which got me real quick with my fingers. Mucked about with delaying 2 records as well before learning the basics which helped a lot in understanding the structure- this and a lil bit of scratching was as far as I got with turntablism tho before getting into house and other stuff where selection was more important than anything.

Out to all those saying don't touch the platter...depends what you wanna do with the mix ;). And even in a simple beatmatch mix, if the beats are quite out, touching the platter is fine as long as you touch it at the right time and not on the kicks, snares, or pads. But yea I guess it bad practise, tho I very often tweak pitch with platter first (I mean so so slightly...literally touching the spindle) then change pitch accordingly. Guess its down to how you learnt to begin with.
