Sorry to hear this Del
I've had tinnitus for coming up to a year now, and the first couple of weeks trying to sleep, I got so angry I nearly did a Van Gogh. It's very frustrating, but the more stressed and tired you get, the worse it seems.
One thing that I found helps is to just 'masssage' your outer ear with your finger, moving in circular movements. That sound takes your attention away from the "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" and can help.
I've also found that being stoned does help too!
But as people have said, there's a good chance that it will still go away, and it might not be permanent damage. I hope this is the case!

i don't do stoned... i'll try the outer ear massaging tho lol
so glad i can sleep with it. it'll stay that way touch wood, inshallah, fingers crossed etc.
i put my plugs in every time i go on a run and when i'm on the tube... haven't used my earphones at all. that's getting to me a bit cos i'm used to having a good dose of music i love everyday. today i weirdly had ken boothe - who gets your love in my head the ENTIRE day. normally i get a few songs. as soon as i got in i had to run grab my laptop and put it on lol.
it's quite loud right now... does it like water? i think mine doesn't like the bath.

Yeah, I know a few people with tinnitus and there are various ways to control it/limit its impact on your life.
If you do find you have trouble sleeping, having Radio 4 or something on quiet when you go to sleep helps stop you fixating on the ringing.
A guy I know who has it really bad (affects the way he talks) found he could 'control' the ringing by meditating. He also swore by green tea. Not sure how either of those would help but he said it did, and he had it really bad.
Have you been along to get it checked out by your doctor yet?
Another friend of mine got his ears checked after suffering from tinnitus for a year. The doctor said it could also be caused by a build up of compacted wax in the ear (can be caused by using cotton buds and by earplugs (ironically)) and recommended various ways to shift the stuff.

I make fun of deaf people, blind people, folks with autism that make music all the time. I have lost a good amount of my hearing, but I don't get butt hurt when people make jokes about it.
I have a constant ringing in my ear. Sounds like a school bell in the distance ringing non stop. Such is life and I should have worn ear plugs at all my shows/performances.
did the timer go off? I have to get my ham out of the oven.

lol. I'd heed Ed G's advice first, go and speak to your doctor first as it may be wax build up, glue ear or something like that, that is treatable.Delendi wrote:awesome, you're a twat.

i haven't told them... don't want em to know. it's the sort of thing that makes you a less desirable employee at a recording studio
i'll have to make something up like an STD or something.
update: i left the computer to grab something for an engineer and when i came back one of the other runners was on the laptop. sick

This. If they don't let you go see a doctor, then they are utter bastards.Wub wrote:Can you not get time off from work to go to the GP? Edit: So does that person know now?
Surely if you're good at your job and there's a chance that this ringing in your ear is treatable then they'll have no problem. Even if it is permanent you can pretend that is isn't whilst you're at work.

Hmmmm, tell them you've got the shits chronically and need to go see the Doctor. People tend to argue less with something like that. Or anything involving the word intestinal. Again, nevers gets questioned.
One of my mates got out of work saying he'd shit himself in the car on the way in. He got the piss taken out of him, but got a free day off and strangely never had to give anyone from the office a lift every again.
