it's hilarious how angry people get when you mention the elephant in the room like this.

It's a fact that the US has a weak electronic scene compared to Europe.

Where is the American Goldie? Source Direct? Remarc? Photek? Dillinja? Doc Scott?

Where is the American Mala? Loefah? El-B? Coki? Horsepower? Martyn? Kode9?

Fact is, the US rejected rave a long time ago in favour of hip-hop. You are seriously deluded if you can't see how the US and Europe differ vastly on this point.

And how the fuck am I limiting my experience? I've listened to every American dubstep artist that's popped up in the last year or two, and I'm not impressed. I'm not actively dissing US artists for the sake of it. This is a reaction. I'm telling it like I see it.

hip-hop is rave. that's a first.

and the US scene is indeed different in that in 10 years, nobody is going to remember any American dubstep artists.

same as with jungle/d'n'b really.

fundamental difference between hip-hop and rave:

rave is about unity, equality and anonymity.

hip-hop is about watching someone on stage spit about his ego.

the two couldn't be further apart.

like i said, not really worth arguing, except to let heads know that its dumb as all hell to make sweeping musical generalizations in regards to geography.

what is fun is to understand more about PEOPLE AND PLACES all around the world through the universal language of music.

only bullshit internet scenesters think like Ory. its a crappy way to be.

So because the US has a couple of interesting artists it's not valid to make observations about how American music has generally stagnated in terms of innovation? :?

Again, I love detroit techno, chicago house, new york garage, soul, funk, even some hip-hop. I'm simply presenting my view that there's dangerously little NEW music coming from across the pond.

anyone banging on about credability of music in terms of geography is lost. dubstep is rooted in african music just as much as hiphop. house and techno have as much to thank detroit for as berlin or london. it's all the same. can't believe that kids get worked up about such a mundane and pointless subject.

btw, sweden is right up america's ass just like the rest of europe. we're all wearing nike airs so get over yourselves.
