this reminds me - is anything happening with that petition to reduce noise in working environments? there were rumours of it a few months ago and it's pretty worrying - means most clubs could barely pack much more punch than a home system in order to protect their staff[/quote]

They sent a guy with a noise meter to stand at the bar at a night we put on this year. We were told it was to do with this potential new law.

Maybe harsh to say this but its prob best to not get a job in a club if the noise is too much for you ?

This country has gone mad for health and safety, so we can all have slightly longer (but less fun ?) lives.

with the smoking, you can see the point in your average family style pub, but at somewhere like mass when its dmz does smoking upset the audience ?

I know, its more about the staff. But I reckon this law mainly came in as a result of the bullshit blame/claim culture that we now have everywhere - if someone who had been working in a club or pub got a smoking related illness they could take action against the venue...

Someone else pointed this out, they apply the same laws at outdoor events - being at bestival this year was already a miserable enough experience without also being hounded by the security for smoking in open sided tents.

my dad's friend went out of his building for a ciggarette the other day, just outside of the door. The security guard came up to him & told him he has to smoke exactly 2 meters away from the building.. :|

i bet a lot of the people who campaigned for the smoking ban never even go out to pubs and clubs.

For the start of the year in my college they took out the smoking area too be 'anti smoking college'. For about a week we all had to stand outside the main gates where there's a busy road and half of us almost got ran over. But we couldn't smoke directly outside...

Now they put a smoking area next to the car park which again isn't that safe :/

And in the first place we had a designated smoking area... so now it's just in a different place.

Bit pointless moving it but the old one had seats. xD
its funny how the power tripping sort of filters through right down from government to schools, colleges & businesses isnt it...

I'd fancy my chances against a Smart car. Adopt a low stance...POW! Write off. I simply stub out my cig on the bonnet, and poddle off to the dance.

Arrrr thing is yeah... In the summer, most people sit outside at pubs (if theres the option) and smoke, just cause of the nice weather.....

At clubs I always ended up going out at least once in the night pre-smoking ban just to get some fresh air...Sure people were the same!

Also the more people outside at clubs / pubs means its more likely that people will get into fights and such!!

At least some pubs keep it clean now so it don't smell like stale piss & beer...

maybe..... until the extreme reverb created by the crumpling of said smart car bounces off a nearby tall building and perforates the eardrum of an innocent employee of the neighbouring carpark. This results in you getting sued and charged for severe negligence and contributing to an inhospitable and unsafe working environment.
