hehe, oops. Didn't know this threa existed until just now.... three cheers for searching your own name!

Pandai'a holdin' down the fort on the double-ex piloted dubstep here in Boston ;)

The lady bassophiles, we're around. Someone mentioned they thought girls were intimidated by decks and that's why there aren't as many female DJs? I don't think it's the decks that are intimidating.

A DJ girlfriend I know once told me she just felt like it was a male's world behind the decks. I think it's people believing that that keeps tricking XX's into thinking they don't belong there.

Personally I don't think it belongs to men or women, or any person in particular- I think it belongs to the brave and the passionate.

I've been told many times that I DJ (and throw/fish/caber toss) ''like a girl'', so maybe I'm 50% there.

Joking aside, you've got to give it up to any female DJs out there because there's probably twice as much pressure on them not to be shit when they get in front of a crowd of monomaniacal men who listen to Rinse FM 365 hours a day.

back in the day when i was first gettin' in the game, there would always be this circle of guys around the decks waiting for me to fuck up. my little joke was that i never did. ;)

werd, corpsey- i certainly feel the pressure not to be shit... fortunately I thrive under pressure ;)

Ain't so bad anyway, I think every DJ (yeap even the boys) should at least try not to be shit, don't you think?

haha! how exactly DOES a girl DJ though anyway?

Nothing wong with female DJ's

Infact, i find it amazing.. they draw for some of the tunes i wudn't expect to hear in the mix.

And it compliments their set perfectly.

yeh I know what u mean about this place being a boys club.
Sometimes this forum can get really macho and sexist towards women..

maybe its the Hip-Hop influence in Dubstep I dont know

true dat. it's comfortable shoes all the way for me.

and in response to western synthetics: i don't think it's hip hop that is the influence, i think it's the patriarchal system in general that affects everything.

granted, most of the dubsteppers i have run into have been fairly cool, but it's a system all of us are socialized into, and unless we really take a look at our actions and how we were socialized to think...then we will keep finding the same issues over and over again no matter where we go.
