Ah crikey, I feel duty bound to try and point out some tunes on hyperdub that will blow you away Abs :P Hyperdub isn't 100% hit for me, theres a few releases on there I didn't pick up intentionally, but thats pretty much to be expected when you've got a label which at its heart is really just trying to push boundaries and show some love for the producers at the fringes of...well, dubstep I guess.

Either way, there are some absoloute monsters which are relatively simple too.

LV - Dream Cargo (Actually one of the most pounding things ive ever heard :o SO, mind blowingly deep)
Quarta330 - Sunset Dub (Bit of a love/hate one I think. God knows im in love with it)
Darkstar - Need You (That drop after the breakdown :U: )
Skeng!!
9 Samurai :2: :2:
Find my way (kode9 remix)
Then ive got to mention the spliff dub remix again, aswell as the cool out EP (The one ting remix is basically one of the sickest bits of electronic music ive ever heard! No idea what its trying to be, but I couldn't care any less if I tried. Aaaaamazing bit of music!)

Easy to forget how diverse the label is until you see them in a list discogs style. MASSIVE respect to kode9, man has an ear for tunes SO far ahead of what others seem to be doing...baaaadman!

I pretty much agree with this, I know there are some classic tunes, like I said, but the majority of it for me just doesn't do it, sorry Kode9!

Well, music doesn't always have to be what you expect from it, and that's whole point about Hyperdub I guess. For example if you'd have a trance-lover hear a dubstep tune he'll probably also be waiting for the break and the build-up and the climax, because that's what he expects of it, and he'll probably end up saying it also was going nowhere. Just like hyperdub isn't relevant enough for you to listen to and fulfill your "expectations" of what you have of a dubstep tune ;)

Although I've already professed my love for Haipadabbu in this thread, I would just like to say that the Kode9 remix of Burial's "Distant Lights" just left me feeling confused and alienated. :|

thing with hypredub is regardless of whether i like a particular release or not, the label is consistently pushing something new, experimenting with different directions, digging for new talent, fearlessly taking risks, bucking trends and breaking new ground.

you can't say that about many labels and in that sense i have the utmost resepct for them (whilst not necesarily getting everything they do).

To be fair, I completely do not get what Kode9 was trying to do with the harmony in that tune.
I hope to god he's just really into his dissonance [/quote]

saw some interview with him on remix hotel or something like that cant remember if thats it but, he is really into his dissonance and hates musicians apparently haha

And as for the Skeng remix.. I hate it, I love the original, but that remix is a joke, it's just some horrible tune he made and then just dropped the acapella over the top, none of the melodies fit or anything.
I think you'll find it is YOU that is boring mate, not the music :)

Intoccabile :
I just don't want this thread to turn into an ad hominem attack fest for the simple reason that one person defends an unpopular opinion.

i agree totally with abs, the zomby album sounds pretty half arsed and i thought the skeng remix was absolutely terrible. this is a discussion forum and if someone starts a post someone has the right to express a different view. why slate someone just because they say something you dont agree with?

Most producers are members here and the idea of this forum was to be a community. You wouldn't discuss with a friend whether your mate's bird is fit in front of him so why discuss whether a producers tunes are good? Especially someone like Kode 9 who was one of the pionners of this genre and helped shape the sound etc and runs one of the most popular labels in the game. The chances are you just have shit taste in music so keep your negative opinions to yourself, cos as you see in the skream thread, you just piss people off who work hard to make music. (corny analogy used I know lol)

i think Hyperdub is one of the best labels out there, the tunes are all different and they push things in a new direction as far as electronic music is concerned.
not just dubstep. All the artists on the label are absolutely massive as well.

What an utter load of shite, if you put your music out there for people to listen to then you're going to get both good and bad critisism, it's just the way it is, they know that.

Chances are you've got shit on your nose, i'll keep my opinions public on this PUBLIC FORUM FOR DISCUSSION.
