i doubt it very much, those days are long behind me (for now)

i just eq and compress most times, a bit of reverb on a clap or something but thats about it.... less is more

i just make a loop and add as much as i can or need and then make a rough arrangement by quickly muting stuff as i go along.... i dont this about 5 times and each time just get a little bit more detailed on what is moving around and coming in and out

after that i start detailing, which takes a good while lol

got the pad from some sample cd and the string is just from the EXS24
i didnt really do much to either of them really, just a small bit of eq and sidechained the string to the kicks slightly

the latest Critical, that KOTR vol4 and the Heist remix,..
Reinforced was the goods so anything that came out through them i was all over and i was really impressed with that Enforcers EP and your Numbers EP. pretty much sold after those for first releases.

i should look at some of those songs in the Chemical Rec. player key finder thing. a lot of your tracks seem to set in a different key than the majority of dnb. any consideration of that when your producing, or does it carry over from your samples?
and i want to thank you for your appreciation of dynamics and especially for not forcing your breaks into unsuitable (see faster) tempos. it really lets them carry their initial appeal over into your song, it kinda made it hard for me to b2b with a lot of the locals though..!

the main reason my tunes are in a different tune is very simple

i love low bass notes!
ive tried to make stuff in higher keys, but i cant feel the tune as much... seems like the bass is way too high and wont do anything next to other tunes

im not the brightest bulb in the box when it comes to making music tbh, the technical stuff that i do know has taken years and years... most of it is very simple stuff too

hmmm.... maybe reason, although i dont like the overal sound of reason, its dead quick and easy to do little loops (and tunes too a imagine)

i produce all sorts, but rarely do so. (dont really have the time any more)
my first album had a second cd of all sorts of tunes i had made over the year i was making the album, had some downtempo stuff, jazz, house, glitchy electronic stuff... quite the mixed bag

i make my dubstep pretty much the same way i make d&b, apart from the tempo and i love to use shuffles for dubstep too

i went to the B.R.I.T school and was playing the guitar from about 11 (although not any more

) and studied audio engineering at south themes college for 3 years, i defiantly think it helped, even though i never really paid attention, i wish i did though lol

what do you use for your subs i.e. specific source samples or vsti s?

do you have any bass compression/distortion tips or could you name a plug which you often use on your sub bus?

most of the time i just use an empty instrument from the EXS24 and mess with the envelopes
as for compression and distortion i just use the standard compressor and just mess about with it till it distorts and then take a step back from there so it doesnt distort... if that makes sense?
i used to use the blockfish compressor, but it doesnt work on my mac (if anyone has the same problem or better yet, fixed the problem, let me know!!)

So, knowing that you use Logic, and the above post about using the ESX24 for your sub's quite often, do you use the ESM or ES2, and if so - any tips on using them?

I am new to production & have been using the ES2 quite a bit as it seemed the most relevant for getting twisted bass sounds out of, but maybe I am wrong?

not really used them that much, i think if you want to make lfo sounds your best bet is probably albino... its wicked for stuff like that

Do you practice scales and chords or do you play by ear?

I was wondering if you could please tell me what the relative scale is to the G phrygian mode? It would be a big help to me in creating that eastern feel, and hopefully making lots of money! Ha ha!
