i did radioshows b2b with a dancehall show for YEARS in Vancouver. The host was from JA, got all her music/dubs from the island exclusively. She was very receptive to hearing new stuff outside of hardcore dancehall - ragga jungle, dubbed out electronix, THE BUG, even breakcore. Dancehall is an attitude as much as it is a culture, and it takes influences from everywhere the bounce happens. If the attitude is there, dancehall fans feel it.

I also have a very fond memory of dropping earlier Bug stuff on another radio show in Vancouver, right after a similar dancehall / soca show. I dropped "Gun Disease" and the dancehall crew EXPLODED! Honestly, they were banging the walls in the radio station, jaws agape. Crazy. Like I said, if the attitude is there...

I still think dancehall is the roughest shit goin. ROWDY.

from a few years ago, Ward 21 were tough, good shit. Vybz Kartel, Lady Saw is still pretty raw, Elephant Man, Macka Diamond is ok - i don't mind some of her stuff. Bounty Killer of course. Rik Rok. O.g names like Yellowman you can't go wrong with, Silver Cat from waay back when. There's lots.

im never surprised when hearing about facist police murdering the poorest people in any nation.

Anyone live in the Czech Republic? The govt. there practially swooped up sizan and facist groups (at least in Prague), gives them a gun and a badge, and pays them like an equivalent of 900 US dollars a month.. not much because they don't have money to give to anyone who would be interested who expects a decent wage for the type of job.. but to give these people weapons is insane.

I wonder how it operates in Jamaica for the pigs to kill 200+ people in one year in poor neighborhoods.

interesting question...

Steelie & Clevie produced at least one jungle riddim, Ninjaman's Donette i think...as far as i know this was the only jungle tune to come out of JA..

The Esperanza Soundsystem from freibourg told me people are starting playing dubstep on the island.
might need to ask them to know how big it is.
And i think dubstep, if you consider the reggae digital side(not the wobbly one) could take over there.

"all of us jump up and down at the front going mental and screaming"

that makes dubstep nights in devon sound like some sort of OAP retirement home thats run out of downers.

I remember way back Mala talked about going to JA and playing some dubstep... he got a pretty good reception.

Dancehall will, I'm sure, take on influences as Dubstep spreads round the world, same as it's taken on influences from stuff like Timbaland and Neptunes... and of course already there's international crossover artists like Rakkas Crew and Ghislain Poirier that are creating the hybrids outside of JA...

maybe for the (different) vibes: weather, venues, systems, gashment, etc etc...

but not in terms of the music. dubstep got that fresh edge, still very exciting imo.
