why do you care? why put effort into hating? there's tons of different kinds of dubstep, if you don't like what everone else is listening to find what you want to listen to and put effort into promoting that.

Don't post stupid shit like this in the production forum on a DUBSTEP website...
you obviously fail to recognise that people have different tastes in things. I like dubstep (and wobble bass when done nice- reso, cardopusher, ebola etc) but I hate the wobbler-jump-party-rusko shit... and trust me, there's definitely some dubstep you don't like too. Variety and taste makes for interesting conversation and viewpoints. embrace it!

Also I'm pretty sure 2562 and Martyn refer to their own stuff as Dubstep... it's obviously Detroit techno in influence (probably more holland's variation of it tbh) but it's still 140bpm, heavy bass, tight grooves and with a massive dub influence altogether so it's still pretty much dubstep
Yeah but I don't go to the grid on DOA, and run my mouth about how much i hate the drum and bass sound.. And how its to fast to groove too.. And for your info.. I was at a pure filth party and watched Martyn clear the dancefloor at a dubstep party at 3:00 in the morning just before Reso came up and smashed it. And i would never consider Martyn's music dubstep. It's techno.. In fact they should punch who ever came up with that classification..
Holland can keep that shit.. I'm here for the bangers.. WOBBLE WOBBLE..

The most attractive thing about Dubstep right now is that a label like Hyperdub can release three tracks in a month - Zomby - Hardcore Rave influenced piano crazy, Burial - Uber miserable and serious thoughtful music and Joker nu-school electro influenced disco shit!

Why do you want to limit it? WHY!?

I love that Martyn has a techno influence, I also love a Caspa wobbler or a Kode 9 dub track ... if you split things up you weaken the scene.

Back in the early rave days we had parties with Sasha playing alongside Grooverider alongside Beltram alongside the Ragga Twins - it was all the better for it. As everyone got more obsessed with their particular sub section the whole thing ran out of steam. I dont mind someone playing a certain style - I do mind noisey people shouting about what is and isnt acceptable musically - who made you God?!

Theres room for all kinds of style within dubstep - the moment that stops being true will be the moment the baby is thrown out with the bathwater.

/Rant ends
This is exactly why I will continue to support labels like Warp that have such a diverse set of artists (Mira Calix to Autechre to Maximo Park to Flying Lotus).

Segregation of a musical genre is, IMO, ultimately a destructive influence, but one that cannot and will never be avoidable.

I will listen to Caspa, 2562, Martyn, Reso, whoever, but I know that my creativity isn't pushing in the direction that these artists take theirs.

Therefore, I can appreciate the different styles when I listen to them, and I find it keeps my creative mind ticking over.

I don't hate wobble tracks, I don't hate the more minimal tracks. I embrace them for what they are and use them to drive me in my own direction.

No by jump up I mean shite like this:
Aphrodite - King of the Beats

Mickey Finn & Aphrodite - Bad Ass

Ray Keith - Chopper (Shy FX Remix)

Shy FX - Wolf

Which is all as gay as this: Image

Is all that old jump up actually very different from dubstep? intro, bass, rinse, repeat? Sometimes I wonder why it is that not many people can make that connection.

Got nothing against wobble to be honest, more just what it represents. Of course, wobble done well, and used as part of a tune rather than just being the tune can sound just...so sick. I mean, 28g :o midnight :2:. Obviously sick.

But yeah, the term wobble for me encompasses the completely thoughtless, lets-make-people-dance-on-a-level-akin-to-fucking-donk shite that seems to get churned out by so many producers, and lapped up by even more.

Thoughtless percussion only + sample.
Thoughtless percussion fades out, sample finishes.
Drop.
Add mid-range robofart wobble orgy bassline to thoughtless percussion.
Back to the sample (braykdown! :2:).
Thoughtless percussion + mid-range robofart wobble orgy bassline + an extra kick drum somewhere.
Finish.
I die a little inside.

I remember when there was techno, and there was hip hop. And you still had to know how to mix the two. You had to be able to mix "push it" with "everybody wants to be a dj", then throw down "technicolor" right after that. Nobody really got their panties all bundled up about which buzz word described their music best.

Q23. You just reminded me of a defining moment in D&B's history (for me and the peeps that were there anyway)

Tasco Warrehouse, Plumstead, S.E. London. i forget the name of the dance, but Bukem steps up after one of the heavy sets and this track stars playing.

The intro goes on and on and on, and everyone's looking at each other going "WTF is this bollox". It was floaty strings and jangly bells and a female vocal.

Then the drums and bass drop and the place explodes.

Bukem had just played 'Music' for what must have been on of the first live plays of it. The track got pulled up 4/5 times +

That track was a defining one in terms of 'Intelligent' D&B splitting from Jungle, and neither sub-genre lasted the distance before the next came through.

Dubstep doesn't suit being pretentious, what's with the fucking rage here over d'n'b? Every genre has highs and lows, there's a lot of shit in drum and bass, but I think some people here would hate a dnb tune more for the label than what it actually sounds like.

As you say, Burial and lots of stuff by Skream/Benga etc. could be classed as a few styles but that doesn't matter if it's good in the first place.
