some UK folks mentioned dubstep on a techno BB (blackoutaudio.co.uk) and it sounded very interesting to me. they had mentioned dubstep forum so i came on over and grabbed some mixes. then i realized that surgeon has been playing out various tunes by vex'd and some others, mixed in with dirty broken techno, and those were tunes in his sets that i was really freakin' out over. found benga's newstep mix online somewhere and that just sealed it.
started buying everything i could get my hands on (mp3s mostly, but the odd vinyl when i could find it or i really really decided i must have it at all costs).
been playing both straight dubstep sets and a fair bit of it chucked into my techno sets lately as well (techno people always go insane when they hear it too).
thank you dubstep! i am so glad we found each other!

started making grime a few years ago (with no producin experience, so it was quite poor), when i got a bit better my stuff seemed to vear off into dark places, someone said it was more dubstep so i checked out some dubstep and got hooked. its taken over from grime for me, even though grime has the potential to be just as much, it just aint cuttin it in many ways right now.
Now im just focused on producing music that I wanna hear. gettin there slowly

the rephlex crew came out to los angeles in 04.
bogdan raczynski headlined w/ his dirty lofi drillnbass
soundmurderer & his mashed ragga breaks
then markone and plasticman decked it propa.
tho i had been pickin up grime records for a minute,
it was a new sound......sweet and fresh
been hooked since

First proper exposure was at an acid/electronica night down at Jacks in London Bridge - a Rephlex night with big names like Luke Vibert, Cylob, Ceephax Acid Crew etc. 2 unkowns to me at the time (Digital Mystikz and Kode9) were burning up the 2nd room with the grittiest bass I'd ever heard, especially in such a small room it just bounced around like a big rubber ball of sound...never really followed it up but I knew I loved this noise.
Then a couple of months later Dubstep Warz dropped on Breezebloc and i've been hooked since then - been to every DMZ since and bought me a pair of 1210's I'd say around 90% of my vinyl to date is dubstep. Big up to all the heads in the scene, both pushing forward and supporting this truly infectious sound

Thought it was boring blazing music until I went to have a look at Kode 9 at Detonate on April 30th in Nottingham. There were only a dozen or so people dancing to it but it was fucking immense, absolutely murdered the dnb sets I'd seen that night- the vibes were so sick, and it almost was better because it was only a relative few who were clued up about it. After that I went to DMZ when Kode 9 and Plasticman played, and that was it. Since then EVERY dubstep night I've been to has been heavy- Loefah at the Maze, DMZ Summer Blazedown, Detonate when Digital Mystikz played. I've seen mates of mine- jonrust, bracky fudge etc. play sets that have excited me more than whatever Zinc, Swift, Andy C set I've seen recently.

Easter 2000
Coming back from a garage photoshoot, driving to Croydon station with two other geezers in the back of the car: El-B and Jayda Flex. El-B's like "I've got this record out..." It was Ghost 001.
At the station I linked another producer from the photoshoot to complete the interviews. It was Zed Bias.
Been on dis ting ever since...

I've pretty much cut and pasted this from my introduction thread...
********************
I've been introduced via...

Ragga Twins

Basic Channel/Rhythm and Sound/Scion

DeathStyle Records

J Saul Kane

The Rootsman

Hymen Records

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... id=5488793
Check the tunes and the bass^.
Auld 1990-'93 [H]ardcore.

Smiley Culture.

Scientist.
Oh, and even a tiny bit of Rebel MC.
Namely "The wickedest sound"
I remember seeing Plasticman on flyers around '02-'03, (if I remember rightly), and thought that at best it was 'cheeky' and at worst, 'unimaginative'.
Since that poor introduction, I've checked out some material and enjoyed it.

was getting bored with the golden-party-age vibe
(and tired - intensive party life style)
felt champagne garage 2step gngsta for a while
but mainly b trax on b sides of those vinyls (heavier darker instrumental)
then elB, Hrspr
dubplate.net
went to London few times, met the infectors
and got into the vibe and beats now called Dubstep
am still deep into it - Dbstp became part of my genome
