i personally prefer less bass heavy dubstep - stuff that comes more from garage than cheesy drumnbass. when i saw the others a couple of weeks ago it was bass wobbler after bass wobbler and in the end the whole set just sounded messy - almost verging on industrial.
big up sully, ikonika, joker, and pinch for melodic genius.

i got into it same ish time(end of 04/) & i agree thatthe tunes were alot more "chilled out"(for lack of a better term at 326am), the rhythms were sparse, & the whole feel of the music was not as "hype" based as it is now. and most of all it wasnt so abusive in regards to bass.
Though,, i except that times change things progress.... and i always welcome this. There is soo much music in the world,, and just too much to be discovered by individuals for anyone to get twisted about the way something once may have been. Apply some effort seeking&discover something that will satisfy. Everytime you find a new "sound", the refreshing feel of it will be the award....It's alot more enjoyable then being over zealous & cynical. plus it never hurts to know or hear something new,

ummm ,, ? sub-genres,,generally indicate that the sound has been experimented with resulting in an off-shhoot of the original sound ....the progression of a sound is a result of someone being creative, breaking the boundaries of the original sound,,,,, ....Examiow wrote:I agreed up to the part where you said "dubstep sub genres", that is something we don't need! People start labeling themselves inside those sub-genres, and not thinking outside the box. From what i've read in other posts, i'm not the only one who thinks sub-genres are a bad idea.freqone wrote:ummm ,, ? sub-genres,,generally indicate that the sound has been experimented with resulting in an off-shhoot of the original sound ....the progression of a sound is a result of someone being creative, breaking the boundaries of the original sound,,,,, ....Examiow wrote:I agreed up to the part where you said "dubstep sub genres", that is something we don't need! It's not the labels that make shit generic tunes, it's the unimaginative producers. If you don't want to be labelled as 'wobblestep', try making tunes that don't sound like a bargain basement knockoff of Coki.Examiow wrote:People start labeling themselves inside those sub-genres, and not thinking outside the box. But anyway, to answer the original question, no I'm not because although I find it pretty boring when DJ's roll out a whole series of predictable bangers (and I mean boring in an "I don't actually feel any compulsion to dance" sense rather than an "I don't feel any compulsion to stroke my chin and write an essay" sense - I rave harder if there's more off the wall unexpected shit going on) I tend to go and see DJs who go further than that and do something a bit more fun and exciting.
This might be a london ting, but around here if you keep seeing predictable boring DJs then you've got only yourself to blame because there is A LOT going on.
