corporations throwing dubstep events
everybodys sucking someones cock it seems..
whatever anybodys point is, this thread and the under/overtones of this whole discussion is counter productive and is creating a wider schizm than there already is. bellybelle you nailed it, btw.
the people getting success will always be hated, and scrutinized and the people that arent will always go underground and each is essential in its own way. black white yin yang..."LIFE IS PAIN, anyone who tells you different is selling something" everyones selling something. where is the line that determines selling 'out'?? who decides this??
i think the people that are clinging on to 'their' scene so hard and trying to control it and letting their emotions rage are doing so because its all they have and the only thing they live for and thats admirable, but i think despiration is an easy scent to pick up and is also counterproductive and not a good way to get what you want.
bitterness should be a fuel to your passion to do bigger and better more positive things, not to lash out and cause rivalries or take sides or passive aggressive jabs at people or groups of people. the greatest revenge is success. so get your success. everyone. i wish you all great success. but gaining success by creating rivals and feeding upon peoples emotions and loyalties is not the way to do it, please find a more positive direction. i implore you.
everyone has different motivations and i think its fruitless to hate on someone elses hustle, if thats what they want to do its what they want to do, and trying to tell someone how to live their life or blasting someone or a group of people or an event or a club because something that belongs to everyone is changing in ways that you dont like is ridiculous to me, and incredibly selfish. this music is everyones. it belongs to the world. its always evolving in multiple dimensions and wont stop for ANYONE.
A-D-A-P-T or fall by the wayside. appreciate change. embrace it.
if you dont like it anymore, do what we did at the beginning of this whole chapter. and create something new and amazing on your own. the ones who were there in LA from caseys to the higgins, we were ALL there. and we did great things. please try and remember those days and strive for that unity once again. if youre that desperate to control a scene, make one of your own and see how long it takes for it to be taken over. because it will. its the nature of things...
sorry for the novel but this whole thing is ridiculous and i think people need to step back a second and think about what theyre doing and saying and how its dividing more than bringing together. isnt that what you want in the first place kamala? these corporations arent doing anything near as bad to our scene as the people with so much bitterness that they feel the need to take sides or join teams.
family people! lets keep things positive and moving forward and try and be a little more cooperative. eh?

dont go?
The problem is the influx of people that these type of events bring.. Think of it like inflation... you dun wanna inflate the currency too quickly, or the value will fall thru the floor...

Since the days when house was built we have been here, to the frontiers of the music world we came...
Pushing back the boundaries we are sure to make you dance, we are your servants which we ever will remain.
We are the soldier's of the Underground, protectors of the faith, our flight is one that never can be tamed...
We do not seek your admiration, your respect is all we seek, that respect will help the movement to sustain...
and although our names and faces change in time, our music will endure, and our simple task will always be the same...
Until the world has ended, til the walls come crashing down, the Underground religion we will maintain...we will maintain...
We are One.

Being that scion are affordable efficient vehicles, it's only logical that they would market their products within the dubstep scene, and unless a massive amount of people get their through scion's website (which seems unlikely), their involvement should be relatively harmless. Now, CLEAR CHANNEL, on the other hand are true corporate fucks by definition. We must not be tempted by these evil republicans!

I really think CORPORATIONS like Clear Channel will only Kill or Damage the integrity & good vibes of DUBSTEP. You never had Pepsi Cola or Coke sponsoring Dub events w/ Scientist, King Tubby, or Prince Jammy back in the day. BUT Lee Scratch Perry did do that FUNNY Guinness commercials...LOL!
Now, I'm Thirsty.
DOWN WITH CORPORATE DUBSTEP EVENTS. Like a wiseman once sung
"Money is the root of all evil"!!!!!

there's a lot of very twitchy people in this thread, but the thing i take issue with is the idea that 'the underground' is this ideal, a pure object that needs to be protected and looked after.
personally i see it as being a reaction. it's just people who can't find what they want, making it for themselves. no shows with good music and good people? put one on! no good music? make it! if these corporates are doing good shows for free then take them for what it's worth to you and forget the rest. if they're shit, people will reject them and do their own thing anyway (and then some overzealous types will identify that as being 'the underground' and start trying to protect it) - it'll always go on like that, and it's why we don't need to stress about it.

the STRESS is in keeping the sounds alive man, as it always has been , no STRESS from toyota!!! lol...setspeed wrote:we don't need to stress about it.
but if they want some dubstep, lets at LEAST talk about , whats the feeling?
my feeling is that there is something wrong with this "new" model...
we are at a imho critical juncture, not with dubstep only, but with music and culture and corporatism, and freedom!
do we DCZ!?? de-corporatiized zone? where is the line drawn and does it mean anything at all to begin with? what does it MEAN!? i mean, where are we going? i cant help but think about it at this point when i see certain logos...
