No, I was just using the NHS as an example of the good things that central government achieves.

I don't think it's really anyone's job to teach you how to think but your own. I spend most of my spare time (if I'm not listening to or making music) reading books or watching documentaries... most of the realisations I've come to about life wouldn't have made much sense as a schoolchild... you need life experience before you can get to grips with the universal veritas!

As far as I'm concerned, the government is there to make sure the country doesn't fall apart. In order for us all to have access to clean water, reliable food, working roads, public transport, a health service, education, cash when we're unemployed etc etc we need the country to work. The education system's job is to prepare people to be part of that system that keeps the country running. It's not designed to turn people into enlightened philosophers.... but there's nothing stopping you doing that if you want to... plenty of libraries, thousands of reosurces on the internet etc etc.

Maybe people expect too much from state education?? :?

You would still rather believe someone is in control rather than the reality that nobody really is, you'd rather believe that millions of people are lying and the few things you've read from a minority of conspiracy theorists are right.

Indeed... there must be more people in on the conspiracy than outside of it. I work for a bank, I must be in on it without knowing. Not one word mentioned on a deathbed, not one letter written to The Times explaining everything by someone who's about to die of cancer.

These things come out eventually if they're true....

i agree, ive learnt more out of school thats useful for life than in school
and i agree that is what the government is meant for, the idea is good, but its not doing a great job at the minute is it? public confidence in the government is at an all time low and it should be

The best, most impartial leaders are the ones who don't nominate themselves. You can't have a leadership that's completely devoid of power-hungry people in a self-nominated society simply because, by definition, no one who self-nominates or self-promotes can possibly have no desire whatsoever for power in some form or other.

@ Jungleboy

SHAPE SHIFTERS WTF, come on seriously! Im picturing you at home in a dark room with your mum's collander on your head and a tin foil jacket.

If your interested in the media and perceived media control/manipulation whatever. I suggest you read up about it from credible sources.

Here is a good and easy book to start you off.

Entirely agreed. Reform is definitely needed across the board. I just don't think it's quite time to throw everything out of the window just yet - I might change my mind over the next few months/years... I'm becoming increasingly of the opinion that whatever the country does, I might be best suited to living on a mountainside somewhere. If only mountains had nightclubs and internet connections....

Someone is trying to control- my hemp, my foods, my energy & my media. Not saying its all one group, like Robert Wilson would say- many conspiracy groups trying to out-conspire each other.

I have an opinion, its all rubbish ( to a certain extent).

There is no all powerful organisation controlling us, that was i was alluding to in my comment. People see something on TV/internet and believe it or that it must have some rung of truth to it. For sure there are big groups of people out to make as much money as they can, be it legit or other wise (Cosa Nostra being a prime example) but to suggest a government is controlling us is just ridiculous.

In human history we have always looked at some mysterious power believing it to have some influence over our lives, Religion being the main one. Now that in the west religion is on the wane Aliens,Ufo etc has replaced it as the unknown factor in our lives. Add in shadowy government agents/groups who control us helps fill a void.

Meh, irrelevant to most of our lives, even if they do exist. I'd start worrying if they go through with the whole widespread population control thing...
