i dont think any music reviewers have taste as good as mine
a music taste is a very individual thing imo, its like telling someone whats good to eat, ur taste is gonna be different fro mthe next mans
anyway if i watched tv or paid any attention to the mainstream british media i would join a nation of lost fucktards listening to the zooks, the kluxons, the razorlight and all that other shitty soft rock indie crap thats painfully easy to write about for ur average white middle class hack

I'm a pretty big Vice fan. There is a bit of truth in this statement as there really isn't an image for dubstep that listeners can latch on to. Dubstep's lack of image basically is its image.
Vice music reviews aren't really there to give people insight into anything... Just a laugh.(which was accomplished:P)

James_Knight wrote:Vice's music reviews reflect the very ethos of the publication: succinct, ironic, extreme viewpoints which sadly often reflect great truth. It's sort of like a lifestyle Private Eye, some great journalism veiled in vehement irony and satire.
yep spot on, I wouldn't take it as them dissing the genre. One of the few publications I pic up and usually LOL at some part of the mag, innevitably they have to piss someone off, it's the nature of the humour.

for gods sake man fuck this, so many people of very average skill and intelligence can pick an extreme, controversial perspective on an issue, and pursue it blindly to its fullest conclusions. see that article above? it doesnt reveal any 'great truth', it says a few very very obvious things then chats a lot of smug shit
yah, im a rebel, i do this i do that, but i am NOT afraid to criticise it and that makes me better than YOU, especially when i name drop a few eclectic pieces to show that i am very much IN THE KNOW.
ill read it if its about, and it is very funny on occassion, but dizzying heights/the vanguard of journalism/comedy it certainly aint

As do I, BUT it seems this was written for people "in the know". For anyone who isn't a DJ, they'd automatically latch onto these criticisms but for those of us who are...you can't help but laugh at some of this shit.

I agree with most of this, but
(a) some of their reportage is great
(b) there's so much mediocre 'straight' journalism out there it's refreshing to read stuff that's a little bit conceited and gonzo sometimes

i agree, and as i said i do enjoy a quick read now and again, and it does make me giggle now and again
mainly i think i get frustrated because some people see it as the ninth dan of culture critique. and i get so irritated by the smug tone

Im not much of a Wire hater, as Steve Barker is the man, and he is on their staff. Our guy has kids older than alot of people here, and is still so much better informed on music, new and old, than anyone I know.
As wanky as the magazine can be sometimes, it still has turned me onto some really interesting music that I may not have been exposed to otherwise.
check me blog for an interview with Steve and a Dread mix to accompany it.

Vice was such a great magazine when it was out of Montreal.
Once it moved to NYC it turned to utter fucking trash.
Must be there air there. or lack of promiscuous french canadian girls.
