I'm not there yet, may never be, but I'm just curious

Thanks man
it's always a good idea to establish some sort or introduction and not just send tune after tune
send your tunes to some djs and other producers who will be blunt with you be it good or negative feedback
then send your tunes your most happy with to the label heads and don't pester them about it
if they like it they'll hit you back
first impressions are important

How much of a frequency fascist are you? - do you really cut a hole for everything to get it sounding tight or is it done more organically than that?

I kinda asked the other day on that intensity - mediocrity thread but ...you make good solid bangers that stay intense - general tippage plz?

So you been round fe time - what was the best most creative period for you as a producer and what specifically did you take from that era/genre?

Big ups for letting us quiz ya and all that too - takes chutzpah!

:D
i get a bit picky at times with my freqs on certain aspects, main being kick snare and sub/midrange
just play it by ears mainly and like i say over and over write your beats for your bass or vice versa

tips on maintaining intensity, come up witha good solid catchy loop and make some variations and keep it interesting weith change ups and fx automations also little backgroud stabs and such that keep it from seeming loop like

hmmm my creativity comes in spurts like right now i'm in a semi dry spell and am wasting my time getting drunk on days off instead of writing
like i can go fro months without making anything i like then in a week have 5 tunes cranked out
the favorite stuff and period for me was when i was first starting and just experimented to learn with no worrying about structure, presets, clipping etc and was just pure 100% original ideas or learning by emulating what i dug listening to at the time
those were the days

Cheers for the responce - all good stuff - I just blew my bonus on some HD600 SEnn headphones so I can get jiggy with the sub bass without shaking the windows loose! I shall endevour to put your advice to the test.
I think in the past I have not made the sub and the drums work together enough because I tend to latch on to whichever comes first and then try and squish it all into the same space.

& Like I say thanks - Ive only been flying solo for a year or so and there always seems to be more to learn here everyday - thanks for sharing!
Yeah nice one for that Deadly!!

Peace

Q1: I really don't know do you use abbleton or not,

( Im so used to acid and it's numeric

I use sonalkis free G for accurate metering in Live. I always have one on the master bus (along with Voxengo Span) and sometimes on tracks as well.

@ Deadly, What kind of EQ curves or filtering do you use to LP sub, HP 'bass' and HP/LP kicks? Compression before or after EQ on these items?

Tanks :D

depends on how much i wanna cut off of the inital sound etc if i eq or use a filter and how intense of a dropoff db wise or curve i do
compression after eqing usually with some done post as well just to make sure it all sits well and leaves me some headroom in overlapping freq ranges depending on the sounds i'm working with

heh so in summary it depends

How did you get your first release? did you just send your tracks to loads of labels or something?

deadly habit your drums are soooooooooo sick on all the tracks,

how much time relative to synth etc do you spend on your drums?
have you got a select few snares/kicks/etc that you stick to or do you tend to always make new ones per song?

thanks

i try not to use the same kit on every track but i always layer some shit from the meanbeat kits and sometimes from vengeance
generally spend most of my time on bass and drums when making a tune though

could you give me some feedback on a new beat ive started on

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdbYtHbgcq8&fmt=18

This is a new beat ive been making, my idea for this is like, a storm. Im going to name it The calm before the storm and its going to build up and build up until like a few seconds of silence then a drop. Tell me what you think cause this is the main bit. Since this ive eq'd the drums further and some sidechaining to the kick to give it more impact. Working on a variety of synths with alot of grit in them and have boosted to snares high frequencies to give it more snap and cut through the mix a bit more.

Thanks

Louis.
