Yeah I had the opportunity to meet him last year as he's friends with a buddy of mine. I wanted to act like a fan sooooo bad but I knew I couldn't... Alas I learned no secrets.Huts wrote:Spor's filter work is some of the craziest shit I've ever heard.

You can only take the original sound so far with effects (he doesn't even freq split lol) and then it just comes down to experimenting with different filter combos/automation until you get some groove going.
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Just working on my Reese work. Inspirational and very helpful thread. Those SPOR clips... are effin insane, especially that Stompbox remix. Something most of us would shoot for. Here's my attempt at a Reese. Not bad for like someone who was clueless not too long ago. Used Absynth as my synth.
Soundcloud
In terms of resampling I have done nothin. I think this can get nastier if I resample... That's the next step I'd assume?
I am sure Nosia and Spor resample the hell out of their sounds.

Just starting to get into this and it's fun!! I screwed around with the sound a little more and began chopping it up, and resampling. What I came up with isn't as smooth but it's a bit more aggressive I think. It's pretty cool what you can do groove wise with basically one synth patch. Let alone "abysynth". I never used to touch that synth at all.
So basically in a more drumstep context this is what I came up with it.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Honestly I don't remember because I wasn't expecting to make a tune out of this but I did nothing too crazy. Nothing beyond anyone else that's posted. Used Absynth. Took two different instances, one for the wide spread and one more centered and powerful. From what I remember, I basically did the basic 3 Saws detuned method. One main Saw, the other two up a few cents and down a few cents.Fowles wrote:please share how you created that wicked sounding reese?jbcrazy wrote:Just working on my Reese work. Absynth
PATCH SECTION
Bass Wide
- I picked all three different Saws (1, 2, 3) in the Patch section. Oh... In the Patch section, make sure you use "UNI" and adjust to taste. One of them had FM Synthesis selected in the OSC.
- Notch filters in the Patch section modulating using the LFO section.
- Waveshaper... used three Waveshape effects, one additive, one hibuzz, one saw-fit 1
Bass Center
- I used sine waves actually... one with FM synthesis again, and do the same as above to taste.
EFFECT SECTION
- Used the 'effects', I think I chose multicomb, modulate that as well. I kicked down the Wet because it was getting too muddy otherwise.
-Messed with the Timing effects on the bottom half of the section for desired effect of eeriness....
LFO SECTIONS
- GO NUTS.... that's what I did. Start modulating the crap out of the filters as well as the OSC themselves.
Turn on portamento... and you got the basic patch. Send the both patches into busses... that are spread -30, 30 and downtune those a bit to get a more airy type of sound... kind of like the Koan stuff. Nothing too difficult.
The effects afterwards was key as everyone says right? It was a combination of WOW Filter, Tone 2 filters, Logic Overdrive, Camelphat, Logic Chorus, EQ automation, Maximizer. I wish I could get just repost exactly what i did, but that'd take a long long while.
I don't remember doing anything crazy though. Hope this helps.
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
I've been screwin around with reeses quite a bit lately, and I'm getting a lot better at making them sound like not shit. I find that they turn out much better when I don't just start with 2 detuned saws actually. I've been trying to synthesize something that has some of the qualities of a slightly processed reese already then I go from there
Soundcloud
So anyways any tips to make them even better?

This is my latest WIP. Made the reese over the course of a few days. I started out in reason and got the patch that way, then bounced it out into FL, put some effects on it, bounced it into kontakt with more effects and put the bandpass filter modulation on it to give it more movement, and then put some more effects on it and viola.
To all those who wanted me to do a tutorial about my other reese, unfortunately I've looked back and it's really hard for me to see what I did at the time. But this one I've been doing over the past couple of days, so if anybody wants to know how I did it, I'd be more than happy to do a tutorial on this one.

I have pretty much nailed reeces in general but still lack the ability to make them big and chunky like that.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
anybody know of a free program where you can post video tutorials and the watchers will see your computer screen? I'd be willing to do a video tutorial but I have no idea how to go about doing it.

Pc. I have a nice webcam, but I know there's programs that will record your audio using the mic, but the rest is like a screenshot video, as opposed to having to aim the camera at my computer screen.lloydy wrote:what you on pc or mac?

I just did this in massive, sounds pretty dope when layered with a sub
OSC1 Sin-Square 5 o'clock
-23.90
OSC2 Sin-Square 5 o'clock
-24.10
Lowpass 4 Cutoff 9:30 Resonance 9:30
FX1 Classic Tube 8oclock
And then I eq\d in a notch filter
Simple and basic, but deep

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Have any of you guys tried the sonic entropy zombie killah vsti's?
http://www.sonicentropy.hu/downloads.php
These were some of the first vsti's I ever used and I had forgotten about them. They pretty simple and free as well. After trying them out again, I can see some possibilities with automating the parameters (version 2 has fm, am, pwm, pwmx (?)).

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
So I've been attempting reese basses for a while now. I sat down and made what I thought were reeses. Still no one has told me otherwise, so i'll post what a few hours of new bass patches and some distortion I came up with.
Soundcloud
Its 100bpm as well, as I was going for a Koan ting, but ended up with these really poppy basses and some weird deep belching sounds.
