Mexico only made the tourney because of a late US goal

Why should they!?

They've got a good chance, but Uruguay and England are pretty well matched tbh. Costa Rica, yeah, absolutely... a loss there would be embarrassing, but if Chile can beat England at home, Uruguay can certainly give us a run for our money.

People always assume England are up there with Germany and France. We NEVER are.
Because Uruguay played like shit, have an old slow defense, and an attack that based around a player who isn't 100% healthy

I'm saying Mexico is better than England generally but that Costarica this time around has done quite ok. Costaricas match against Uruguay ought to worry the other teams by now. And it wasn't just uruguay playing worse than expected.

England played well, but shipped two goals to an ageing Italian side based around a 35 year old fading genius. This tournament's about breaking in our (incredibly promising) youngsters, we're not kidding ourselves about invincibility though. It's clear we're not at the top table.

Uruguay are always good team technically and tactically... and everyone has the odd off day. You can't prepare for them based on a complete car-crash of a second half against Costa Rica.

Four years ago England went out in the second round and Uruguay made it to a Semi Final which an England team hasn't managed since 1990. They are not to be taken lightly. Ever.

Replace Uruguay with England and that statement is still valid in the past few years.

Losing to Italy by 1 goal is acceptable for us.
Drawing to Uruguay would be a little disappointing but acceptable.
Anything but a win against Costa Rica isn't acceptable for us.

That's a realistic view, obviously we want to do better than that.. a draw would have been great against Italy and a win tonight would be great but it wouldn't be totally surprising if we don't get the win.. just like it wasn't surprising to lose to Italy.

Arrogant and silly. It's this principle that is the teams archilles heel.

Agree with all of that. England fans having realistic expectations can only be a good thing... the crushing cycle of "DAVID BECKHAM PLAYS FOR US, WE'RE GONNA WIIIIIIIIII OH, FUCK, NO, WE'RE OUT AGAIN" has finally ended. Just be respectable, boys.

Yeah this is the first competition I've felt England fans on the whole have realistic expectations.

I was really impressed by England against Italy the other night.
To call Pirlo a fading genius is a bit ridiculous, the way he moves the ball and never panics or looks under pressure, I definitely wouldn't say he's past his best yet. That free kick as well.

I reckon if you play Rooney through the middle (or not at all, just not on the left) and if Sterling plays as well as he did against Italy you'll fare alright against Uruguay tonight.

I see tonight's result depending more on the performance of Uruguay rather than England's. If Uruguay plays as bad as last week England should do fine.

Will you guys admit to underestimating costa rica if they win the group?

Well yes but that won't happen - Italy will win it.

I even think Brazil being third is off!
I think England should have a good chance if they're able to turn up with that first half performance against Italy and sustain it for 90 minutes. Although, I do see Suarez making a difference.
