you should actually thank them!
I think this may be right though. It may flip flop through the generations. I always felt more kinship with my grandparents generation. They had their shit screwed on tight.

Got booked for an outdoor PsyTrance party over New Years despite not having played or listened to psy in well over a year.
I may even produce some music for it.

me neither, but then again i never really wanted to. and i don't plan on doing it with my kid(s). always thought super involved parents are a bit annoying (at least from the kid's perspective)
obvs a lot can/will change by the time i'll have one, not saying no, but i really can't picture myself any different

There's involved and there's controlling.
I don't force anything on my son.
He wants to participate with me in anyway possible.
Our relationship is rock solid and I wouldn't have it any other way.
If you have the sort of relationship with your kid that I have with my son you will understand.
Yesterday we took the dogs for a walk to the corner shop to buy a packet of chips.
It was a beautiful day and we took a slow 20 minute walk through my beautiful neighborhood chatting shit about everything.
It was great for both of us.
I don't ever remember having a single decent conversation with my dad.
My dad and I have nothing in common now.
We battle to converse.

I think the whole basis of human advancement is everyone striving not to repeat the mistakes of our parents (and not blaming ourselves to harshly when we realise that's exactly what we've done).

I am lucky that I have such an amazing yard stick.
My dad was a useless drunk.
Well, not useless.
He did raise me, I had everything I needed.

Can you imagine the difference in parenting skills, well mainly fathering skills, between people born in the 40's, 50s and maybe even 60's and people around our age? I mean, i'm only three generations removed from people that lived through the Victorian children-should-be-seen-and-not-heard era. A lot has changed ay.

I think a lot about this. The best thing to ensure a good future society is properly raising your children. Non-coercively and lovingly.

...and really only one generation between teachers being tooled up and teachers barely being allowed to touch you.

I've been thinking a lot about that lately. My wife and I recently did 23andme, and it kind of brings you to think about your immediate, and fading into the distance, predecessors, the lives they lived, the evolutionary successes they were in the face of adversity.
I imagine how unknowable the past is. Even through histories and various works of art, that stuff is dead to us in a way. Really what was it like to be a kid back then, what was it like to actually be your great great grandmother?!
But then I think about my daughter. She is like Eve. The past will begin with her. Every minute detail of her life will be recorded. Her descendants will be able to go back and actually watch her existence, they can know her and the world she lived in. And they'll so wonder about her grandparents, what it was like in an analog world.
The future is a trip.

Yeah, I received a nylon strap, ruler, and took some shots of chalk to the face.
My momz though, also in Catholic school, recounts being forced to kneel on a marble floor for several hours as punishment. Fucking hell.

Haha, your children will test your mettle. They are going to push you to places you never wanted to go.
I have a great relationship with my daughter, she is subtle, musical, hilarious and honestly brilliant. I'm not just being proud papa. She is my favorite person to hang out with. Buuuuut fuck, she will fight me at times. More than once have I found myself pounding my fist on the table, and screaming, "JUST DO WHAT I SAID!"
I'm a cross between a teddy bear, a downy feather and a ray of sunshine, but she can turn me into a cross between Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Bush.
Your kids will test you Gene. So much so, you should get to it right now, so you can cut the bullshit out of your life, and your mind.
