Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
What's the name of the tune that Moxie played towards the end of her set with the female vocals and grime instrumental? I've heard it before but I just can't remember the name!
Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
Fair to say my pilgrimage to DMZ was one I will never forget. The 10 hour round trip coach journey from Manchester. The 2 hour queue. Absolutely epic.
Got in there about 10 mins into Kode9 and JB. Basically walked into Sicko Cell. Quality.
Was very fucking hot in there. Had some top moments in there last night. Didn't really think anyone had a bad set but I can see where everyone is coming from about Skream + Benga. Very very brosteppy in patches followed by some fucking housey 15 mins. Some tunes stood out for me tho. That rework of 'Raw Dogz' went off. HUGE. But as someone has already said. How the fuck did that bald twisted prick end up on stage for a good 45 mins. I must have spoke to some posters on here because people in there had the same views as the majority on here.
Youngsta and Kryptic Minds in my opinion were robbed of the biggest set of the night. I missed both play in Huddersfield recently where I'm at uni so to see them and B2B as well was immense. Serious shame the system fucked it. Was so wet in there tho. I broke 3 lighters and made a zoot un-lightable just by being in that sweatbox. Big up those 2. Absolutely made my night even if it was 30mins or so..
One thing I can't get over tho was how you can see the artists still hanging around and jammin till the end. I went outside for a cig after Kryptic Minds had to go off and bumped into Pokes, Loefah, James Blake and Kode9 as well as Artwork, Mala and Skream earlier on. Felt so surreal seeing those just dotted about mingling. Its easy to forget they are all into the tunes as fans as well. Just something you don't see anywhere else if you ask me apart from at raves like last night.
Hatcha and N-Type ended up in room 2 and for me was iffy iffy. 1 it was far to loud. My ears are fucking ruined after being in room 2 for an hour. Didn't have a problem in room 1 I don't think. Can't recall my ears being so fucked when outside for cig after being in room 1. The tunes they played for me was 50 50 why Heavy Hitter got put on twice in about 20 mins I don't know. Not gonna complain tho. Huge tune.
Have to admit I was pretty damn high by the time I got in there. About 5 spliffs in that hench arse queue.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Outlook is a must.

Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
it was orite, went thru quite a mixture of feelings. i was a bit let down tho, i dunno maybe ive just been spoilt by too many good nights there. that said all the music played was absolutely heavy even with all the technicals going on, so big up to everyone who played last night and out to the full gang.
room 1 was waaaay to full and crazy hot, ive never seen it that bad. I got in for chef and joe nice which was a good warm up, then goth trad and vivek smashed it. was standing on the seats near the front left for that which was actually a good spot, but not so great for getting a proper skank on and due to lack of space and heat i never really got comfortable enough to get proper into it.
went outside to get some air and smoke and then just could not get back into room 1, it was mad. managed to get a spot standing on the seats by the entrance for mystikz and loefah but the heat and congestion was really gettin in the way lol.
was just zoned out then and stuck for a while, felt like it was all gonna go downhill but went to room 2 when skream and benga started and just got a nice revival in there. moxie smashed it, one of the sets i actually got to enjoy properly. at that point i realised that it took me more than half the night to realise how much better room 2 was than room 1 lol.
went back to room 1 for youngsta/KM, which was sumin i was lookin forward to all night after goth trad vivek. it was all going great, there was more room to skank cos people were leaving and beats were top notch....then all of a sudden it all went to shit. was so fuckin dissappointed when the lights came on and it all ended, then they tried to play again but the same thing happened after 5 minutes. i didnt mind the one deck business or any other technicals, but what happened on youngstas set actually annoyed me. went back to room 2 after and just tried to enjoy what was left of the night from there.
also for those who didnt stay until the end, hatcha and ntype did infact play but in room 2 after moxie for about 45 minutes i think. they had mighty mo with them. was one of the better parts of the night for me.
/
when the lights came on in room 1 did anyone see how many bottles were on the floor lol. that was well fuckin dangerous, got like shit loads of glass stuck in my shoes at one point. but i guess nothing could of been done about that when the dancefloor is rammed over capacity and everyones drinking, how you suppose to clear up. the stairs in the morning looked completely fucked aswell, pure chunks of mud all over it. feel sorry for the workers who have to clean that club up, the place was filthy as fuck lol.

Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
Even though they got cut short, Kryptic Minds and Youngsta were probably my favourite of the night.
Only got in a couple songs before the end of Goth-Trad/VIVEK, but based on reports here, sounds like I missed a massive one.
I'll know next time people really aren't kidding when they say get there EARLY. Nowhere else would you get people so willing to queue for more than 2 hours from 9pm! Says a lot...

Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
What was the name of the tune with a female sample in it singing what sounded like 'stop mee stop mee'
Very much sounded like Pearson Sound/Ramadanman - same drum pattern and the same sort of 808 cowbells like in 'Blanked'
Got played by James Blake and Loefah
Anyone know?

Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
Massive respect to all the DMZ gang, was a bit disappointed with the night all in all tho.
Music was top notch, Goth-Trad stole the show by a mile, but thats only cos i left before Youngsta & only caught 15mins of Distance b2b Tunnidge. and the Digital Mystikz set was short & a 1 deck situation.
My experience of DMZ was driving for 2 & a half hours & queueing for over 2 hours, which I was more than happy to do for what I thought was guna be a 'proper' dubstep vibe.
But, i spent my entire night forced up against a wall sweating it out due to the club letting in about 300 people more than its capacity.
And i would say whilst most of the proper dmz heads where pushed in the corner, the new generation of face chewing cool kids & trendy women of London were trying to work out why there was no high pitched screeching noises in this dubstep. Would never normally say anything as Iv been on the other end of complaints about rooms being too busy and stuff, but all in all i spent about £100 for something I couldnt enjoy.
Completely understand that its not the fault of dmz tho, just alot of people catching on to something good and it being way too busy & hot.
i say again, until I left at the start of Skream the music was 100%, even if i was rubbing up against the 18 year old vest wearers.
bigup DMZ and all the real supporters cramped up in there, its a real shame to hear what happened after digital mystikz tho.

i think that for the bdays they need a larger venue or more rooms at least to handle this kind of crowd, its just way too much for the mass.

I agree with spydee and mymatedave
far too many people, far too much heat
just couldnt get into it - you just couldnt dance as there was a constant stream of people trying to get past you.
I gave up on room 1 halfway through mystikz sets which i something i nver thought i would do
glad i did though as moxie was very very good
zed bias aswell

Felt so surreal seeing those just dotted about mingling. Its easy to forget they are all into the tunes as fans as well. Yeah found myself spending more time letting people get past me going in/out of room 1 than actually getting a good old head-down skank on. VIVEK % Goth-Trad were just immense, VIV didn't hold back with the deeeeep basslines at all, loved it. Massive shame about Yunx vs KM being fucked up by that drunk bird chucking water into the crowd and getting it over the mixer, it was shaping up to be a classic
And yeah, Skream & Benga, allow that stuff you were dropping towards the end, wtf was that about?
Edit: J:Kenzo - Rotek on a system.
