because people are BORED and this is an easy way to stimulate the parts of ur brain that make you feel accomplished, popular, interactive, compassionate, social, etc. but it's nothing more than a cheat -- you put very little in and wind up getting nothing out of it, but you trick your stupid mind into thinking you're doing something, being "social" or having fun

when all you've done is click buttons on a screen about shit you'll forget in a day's time when the next status update hits your wall
