so i got an album in the mail today. it was listed as NM. i've listened to it a few times and on one track, the needle started skipping randomly towards the middle-end of the track record. i played it again and it played through fine. it wasn't a track i particularly cared for so i wasn't too bothered.
but the second or third time I listened to another track (one i care quite a bit about), it did the exact same thing, skipping at the middle-end of the record. i recalibrated my stylus and have played it through again three times and it's played through fine each time, but i'm quite confused about it. i've also listened to a few other records and none of them have skipped. i'm not sure if it's cause of my needle or the record.
if a record skips once at a certain point in the record, will it always skip at that spot? i've always thought skips were due to physical defects and that a record will either skip or not skip, not 'sometimes skip'. like it's either fucked or not fucked. is this true?

If you always skips at a certain point regardless of what needle you have or how it's set up, it's gonna be an issue with the record. But if it stops skipping when you change/adjust the needle, it's most likely an issue with the needle or there is a small defect on the record but you only notice it if the needle isn't set correctly. That's just based off of my experiences though

any music theory ppl help man out?
when talking about overtones and partials is it right to say - An overtone is any frequency higher than the fundamental sound, and a partial is any frequency which makes up the sound - including the fundamental frequency?
or does a partial have to be a multiple of the fundamental pitch? so like 1st partial would be 1/2 wave length x2 pitch, 2nd partial would be 1/3 wavelength x3 pitch, 3rd partial would be 1/4 wavelength 4x pitch etc... ??
confused lyk

there is a strong obama dynamic at play here isn't there. "stop leading from behind and attack Syria you pussy!" (Obama says he wants to attack Syria) "Somebody stop this tyrannical dictator before he gets us all killed!"
