i don´t know the people around you and if their intentions are true but i don't really see anything negative in doing that things, people change and for sure that is better that they are doing something.
i go to a cultural organization in the gypsy ghetto of my city (the biggest and most dangerous in spain) to teach the kids to draw and do comics and find it very satisfying.
