yeah but its more the fun of it...
my mate just spent like 5k on hardware live set up cus hes rich lol and yeah it brought all the fun back to making music
the way you go about it is just so different
we were making tunes and ideas on the level of proper sick techno producers and id just never do that with a DAW cus my thought process is totally different
i know u can replicate it almost identically... but u cant replicate the process of ideas

I'd recommend getting a copy of Reason. Can be 4 or 5.ezza wrote:playing with drum machines through like 5 effect peddles is the most fun thing ever btw

Comes closes to the table of hardware imo. I just have some rotaries assigned to filters
and delays, the rest is just programming step sequencers.
Fuck high sample quality too. It's fun to just chuck in random bits from a record or straight
from a youtube vid.

yeah i totally understand the hardware thing.. when u think about it, coming up with something decent on a daw and a massive library of samples and a set of plugins is pretty difficult.. it's the unlimited possibilities that totally kill the vibe. that's why usually (unless i'm feeling particularly creative or am building a tune around a sample) i have to come up with a reference tune which i imitate / steal ideas from. doesnt help either that i don't have a keyboard, mpc or any sort of midi controller to play around with ideas, jam or shit. i have to loop a couple of bars and just write notes on the piano roll a bit tedious lol
whereas when you're on a setup the sounds are just really quality from the get go and most importantly there are boundaries
btw imo reason is nothing different to any of the other daws.. a couple of my mates use it (i dont know which version tbf) and basically the only difference is that you can't load 3rd party vsts and you have that nifty thing where you turn the UI around and it shows the back of the synth

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
Reasons routing setup is its best and most distinguishing feature m8. Yeah you can do much the same in any other DAW but the way it's designed makes it an integral part of Reasons function, influenced of course by connectivity in a hardware setting.

why not stick to using synths, even for drum making?

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
I think he's referring to the old mantra of 'limitations foster creativity' or some variation on that. If your machine only has certain capabilities you have to think more outside the box to create something new whereas the endless possibilities of a DAW can sometimes be overwhelming.
Also, some people do stick to using synths for everything for that exact reason
