That subreddit is best just to demonstrate the complete lack of awareness of the outside world, that they honestly believe everybody but them is walking around shouting YOLO and swag constantly. They really have built up a world where they believe they're the only people that like Pink Floyd.

lolll can't stand gratuitous elitism of stnuc who listen to "difficult music" who thnk modern music is inferior yolowsag. also in my world there r people that r not necessarily fedora but regular or semi-cool guys who get into 70's stuff and jazz and shit when a bit older and disregard all that's club and modern, preferring something that has "soul". lol :u:

I went through the "born too late" phase in my late teens and only got into club and urban music after that so my attitude to that kind of ppl is extremely prejudiced

I'd also like to make the point that I don't have much against elitism in music in general as in slating most of the top40 shit, I just meant the elitims of ppl who like only "difficult" or "vintage" music or place it on a some sort of pedestal. although I must say there's better stuff on the billboard than before lol

i think there's more to this sort of misplaced nostalgia than just pretentiousness but w/e

ironic that certain publications who claim they're on the cutting edge of youth culture fawn over bands that haven't been active since the reagan administration

Speaking of nostalgia and the reagan administration... when did every guy between the age 17-22 suddenly begin wearing Reagan/Bush '84 t shirts.

yeah, for one it's not nostalgia

there's all kinds of claims people mix up

retro
recontextualisation
weird ideas of authenticity (where somehow computer technology is opposing old materialism)
a need for all of society to deem it worthy (by way of time machine or terms like classic)

but imo it's more psychological than anything and kind of shit

yeah i can agree with that

i do think there are other things worth taking into account tho, besides psychological and economical factors

this is mainly a trait of rock/metal circles and there are a lot of bands with 20/30+ years of activity. add hero worship and the fact that familiarity sells you get the media talking constantly about "the old". look at any top 40 metal or rock chart, there's bound to be some band that's been around for at least 20 years. was reading an article on some metal blog a few days ago and the writer was calling a band that was at least on their 2nd (successful) album "newcomers" :corntard:

and ultimately i think it's also a matter of people not bothering with new music anymore and become nostalgic for the good old days and "real music" - which is mostly rose-tinted revisionism and changes accordingly to each generation (like people going on about real music like blink182). so you get grumpy out of touch adults and socially awkward kids who think they're right
