Just before anyone reads this post i would like to remind them that i do in fact have a pharmacology degree.

poppers and nitrous bring about their effects in a very similar way to each other

when we're talking about huffing lighter fluid i presume its butane or similar that gets u fucked, yh this works in a very different way to the other two (if anyone else has got a pharmacology degree:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12459679) altho from the sounds of things the effects might be pretty similar.

The idea that nitrous is rly harmless and cool is pretty wrong imo i have seen quite a few people pass out and seize out because of it i hate the stuff tbh

i also have a pharmacology degree for the record and this has always been a petpeeve of mine since i saw nitrous grouped in with gasoline in those dare pamphlets. nitrous has the same route of administration as inhalants but that doesn't mean it has the same mechanism of action.

nitrous is a dissociative anesthetic (NMDA antagonist), that's its mechanism of action. it's not the lack of oxygen that gives you a buzz.

huffing shit has no mechanism other than depriving your brain of oxygen. that's what gives you a "buzz". but it's not a buzz. it's just the feeling you would get if someone was choking you. it's the same "mechanism of action" as the supposed "choking game."

it's like saying marijuana and meth are basically the same drug because you smoke both of them, or molly and xanax are the same drug because you eat both of them.

Huffing lighter fluid and other random shit gets you high because of the butane and other hydrocarbons, these also are nmda dissociatives. Read the paper I posted.

Poppers work through a very similar mode of action to nitrous

idk, seems like they may affect nmda but doesn't say antagonism and it mentions a few other potential mechanisms of action. maybe it's part of their mechanism of action but i still wouldn't count them as the same as nitrous, clearly much dirtier. empirically, i doubt anyone would say huffing glue feels the same as nitrous although i can't speak from first person experience cause drugs are for LOSERS.
