Re: DUBSTEP MUSIC AWARDS 2011
are all artists, record labels, radio stations etc who are nominated going to be at the awards to collect prizes? in my opinion i dont really see the point in an awards for dubstep, but if its going to happen, i hope labels such as tempa, deep medi, chestplate get recognised for what they have done and artists and DJ's that created the genre and kept it strong ever since should also get noticed in an awards for dubstep...but then again i dont know how it would be possible to give recognition to all who deserved it.

threads been split again due to trolling, which by the way ends from this point onwards. stay on topic....

						Re: DUBSTEP MUSIC AWARDS 2011
Anything going to happen about the constant bumping of this thread by the DMAs? As Pete Bubonic said, bumping it three times in a row means a lock. Or do the rules not apply?
Generic comment to avoid reprisal: This will be a bit weird if a producer/dj wins a prize and isn't there to collect it/half the audience haven't heard of him. I can't help but suspect that they knew who the winners would be when they booked them.

I personally don't think award ceremonies are good for music.
just have a big fucking party instead.

like...an orgy?LouseRecords wrote:I personally don't think award ceremonies are good for music.

Anyway, I'm an advocate for total separation. My beef with this party, (although its concept is rather pretentious with little actual quality to back up that pretentiousness), is not so much that it wants to be a benchmark for dubstep. Isn't that why one would do something like an award ceremony in the first place? To have some sort of claim? Otherwise, why not just throw a party? At any rate, from a promotional and commercial point of view, I understand why organising similar events might be interesting, for both the organisers as well as the fans. So, although I do not "agree" with the concept in the first place, I really don't mind that much that it is taking place.
What bothers me, is that there needs to be some separation. Isn't it about time we go all jungle and get this shit back underground? Let them have their Dubstep Awards. They can even have Coki as far as I'm personally concerned. What I would like to see is someone else doing something similar with other names...like you know what I mean? Recognition from WITHIN the scene, rather than from outside looking in. Recognition that doesn't award ingenious business plans, commercial machinery, easy digestibleness et cetera.
But creativity, vision, dedication....
The DSF awards haven't always been exactly representative of that ethos, but I feel that the eventual winners of each category over the years, were mostly deserving.

We did not purposely bump the thread, we simply wanted to tell you about new developments, such as the GetDarker interview etc. - If you feel otherwise, or you feel this thread is a waste of your time, then please don't visit the thread. As we've said, we don't want to force the awards on you, nor do we want to make you comment in this thread, or be any part of the DMAs. - The choice is yours.
Also, we have not picked any winners nor do we know who the winners will be, currently... Hence the reason for a 2 month period of voting. The acts booked, were not booked under the promise of winning awards but to entertain the people that attend the ceremony. - If you don't like their music, then again, this is your choice and in no way are we forcing their sounds on to your ears. - Just don't get involved.

Look, I'm not the one that said the thread should be locked, and I read it to keep up with updates. Pete Bubonic said that threads that get bumped 3 times in a row get deleted, and he's a mod, I just questioned why this thread seemed to be exempt from the rules.
Also, I made a valid point about the possibility of producers/dj's that aren't performing/the audience have never heard of possibly winning. Could you imagine the academy awards where NONE of the winners were in attendance? Surely I'm not the only person that's thought about that?
You come in all happy clappy and 'have a good weekend' on DSF, then take the time to find me and message me on facebook more than once. If you're unhappy with answering people's questions, then just say so, don't keep fucking messaging me on facebook, because you won't get a reply. Stop trying to turn this into a personal thing.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!

We have attempted messaging a lot of people on a personal level, we find that 9/10 times this achieves a greater understanding of what we're trying to achieve with the DMAs. - Forgive us if you feel the personal touch is not warranted, nor needed, however we felt it would be a good idea as on here, we're not seen as real people but a name/brand/corporation.
In any regard, please accept our apologies.
In relation to the winners being at the awards, well, we've never once stated they wont be, in fact, we haven't passed comment on this subject yet. So why you believe they wont be there, is a mystery to us.
Voting closes the end of October, allowing us a month to prepare the winners to collect their prize. Of course, as in every awards ceremony, certain winners may not be available to collect their prize due to other bookings, commitments and so on... Sadly, this is just how it goes. - We will be trying our up most to make sure all the winners will be in attendance to collect their award. We can't control their diaries nor personal life though!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by to comment!

If they're repeated questions, then we simply wont answer them, as they've already been addressed earlier in the thread, or, the information is freely available to answer the question elsewhere.mIrReN wrote:haha u'll never find me on fb dear DMA

1) Why try and find me on facebook when there is a PM function on here? Is it some attempt at intimidation, the fact that you can find us on a personal level? If I levelled a complaint to say, Sony, I wouldn't expect them to find me on my personal facebook and send me messages there about seeing me at events tomorrow night. I'm not the only one you've contacted on facebook either.dubstepmusicawards wrote:Hi there, garethom wrote:Look, I'm not the one that said the thread should be locked, and I read it to keep up with updates. 2) I don't think that the winners won't be there, I just wondered what might happen if they aren't, and you answered that question well about trying to get them there. Just thought it would be weird if you're announcing the winners in a room full of bros (if that is the case) and the big announcement goes "And the winner of best producer is.... Mala!" and everybody's like "...who?" See, we're getting somewhere.

We contacted you for the reasons stated above and also acknowledged we'd contacted other people.
We're not Sony. Each company and the people behind it operate differently. As we said, we felt the personal approach is a better way of generating understanding for the DMAs. - The event reference was simply because we'd be in attendance at an event we noticed you were going to... Nothing sinister behind it. - Also, finding people on Facebook doesn't require a lot of technical knowledge, or, skill. Hence why we adopted the personal approach. We shall refrain from contacting you in the future.

Ok, no worries then, we'll leave it at that. No, finding people on facebook isn't hard, just wondered what your reasoning was behind it when there was a PM function on here. I'm sure you can see how it might be misconstrued. I've got the answers to my questions now, so I'm cool. Big ups.dubstepmusicawards wrote:

to be fair, if you dont even know that it all started at big apple records in croydon then you really arent in any sort of position to be handing out awards at all... surely if you're holding 'the dubstep awards' you would at least do a reasonable amount of research into the history/origins of dubstep firstdubstepmusicawards wrote:Many people have miss-interpretations of where Dubstep was founded/started etc. - Perhaps we have too?hutyluty wrote:why does it still say dubstep started in soho?

Hi Jim,
We're happy to admit that we may be wrong in our research. - As we say, there are so many interpretations of where Dubstep started, or was founded. We shall look in to this and update it if we're wrong.
