SUBFLEX:

idea of the track is nice but that yoi bass makes me wanna puke.. :roll:

dotcurrency:

Tooooooooo much reverb. even ur sub is reverbed? But the wobbles are pretty nice just reduce the atmount of reverb on everything

Updated my w.i.p. it's still heavy drumstep, gets kinda loud at the drop. I kinda mastered it, but i have 5 inch yamahas so it's not that good of a master. I'll record guitar solo and stuff tomorrow, right now drop is just repeating in the ending. Still a bit rough, more details and such will be added soon, build is kinda basic atm and i hate my riser sound. Any feedback would be appreciated, i hope that this thread won't be drowned in holy wars again :)

@justanothersj
Too repetitive, try adding risers, sweeps, a melody which is rising and falling with filters, you know, the usual stuff, right now there is no energy at all, you have to build and release it, it's edm after all. That vocal thing gets boring really fast too. Why no snare btw?

@SUBFLEX
Laser sound doesn't sound right atm, it's a bit overused too. I suggest using different sound during your intro, something a but more leady, a simple filtered saw would do the trick. There is now central melody atm, it's something most tracks should have. Drop kinda lacks groove atm, try analyzing other tracks to understand what exactly makes dubstep "seizure music" :D

@mthrfnk
Nice build, drums sound good and powerful. Drop is nice and catchy. Sounds on the upbeat is kinda dull atm, try something with more attack. Not sure about the guitar-esq sound too it's kinda lifeless, same goes to the drop sound which hits first. That wide mid-high sound is awesome though. Moment at 0:38 could use a bit more work, the break after it is nice, but that pause just doesn't seem right atm.

@Kongret: Really nice intro, love the panned arps. Drums are nice and clean too. Drop is nice, my only suggestion is widening bits as at all the midrange hits down the middle. When you go back into the man riff at 1:30 it's a little sudden, maybe add a short riser before that. Breakdown is nice too and the double time is a nice changeup. In terms of improvement, perhaps cut a little of the mids (500Hz ish) from the synths.

@justanotherdj: Sounds nice and clean, I get the vibe you're going for. To break up the repetition, maybe pitch the vocals on every 4th or 8th one. Definitely add some sweeps and more elements.

@Peakay: Intro is nice, ambience throughout is good. Drums, particularly the snare need more weight. Overall the synth work is good but a bit generic, at times there sounds to be too much going on - don't be afraid to tone back or take out synths and instead beef up existing ones.

@Kongret - Love the intro and build! Not a fan of the bitspeek before the drop though, it's pretty cheesey. Drop sounds pretty sweet you've got some nice sounds. At 1:30 I thought the 2nd synth under the other one sounds kinda forced and smothered. Besides that, great tune man.

@mthrfnk - Sweet drop, love the wide growl. Not really much to say for corrections, although I think the synth that comes in right at the drop could be a little fatter. Can't wait to hear the full.

@justanotherdj The audio sample gets annoying after like 30 seconds maybe switch it up somehow or do something else in place of it. The whole track in general just needs some more polishing and more variation. Add some more hi hats and percussive hits I think it will make the track more interesting.

Latest version of the song. Not mixed at all all yet but let me know what you think!

@DAPT love the black metal vibe in the intro, is a very tight tune, like the style, real nice guitar and samples, sick bass lines, cool edits, tight tune

@mthfnk nice full sounding tune, real nice build up, love that drop, nice lead bro very flux sounding!! love to hear the finished tune man hard

@ Kongret nice pads in the into, wicked atmosphere, builds real well, swt drop, like the bass sounds, drums are tight , sick tune. man the tallets crawling over this thread right now!!

this is a tune we working on right now, bit more of the darker flavor, still needs a bit of a mix down and over all pumping up on the master

@darkdubz - this is sounding pretty good man - i think, like you said, a bit more pumping on the master and it will be pretty awesome.

@OfficialDAPT - you've got some nice drop - the guitar samples work really well too. I think if you tightened up the builds before the drop a bit you would be in good shape. This is looking like it is going to be a tight track.

@mthrfnk - the stereo spread immediately jumped out to me - it is very well done. Your build is really well done as well. The growl bass you have strereo spread after the drop sounds really nice - i would love to hear some more of it - some pitch/note variations with it at the end of a a 4 bar stretch could add alot of energy. Sounding really good!

here is a track i have put on the shelf for a while - im not really sure how i feel about it. I would love to know what you guys think!

Kongret- your tune 'fear' is very precisely made my man! It may not be my sort of thing, per say, but the lead-ups and drops are very on point. I dig the soft synth bridge in the middle and end, probably my favorite part of the tune. I would probably add more variation within the heavy bass, probably using maybe a lower-end cut giving it that guttoral feel, you know? But none the less, awesome.

Mthrfnk- on 'drop whip' Digging the change up in the drums after the first drop, like I say with alot of dubstep tunes, it needs variations in bass and synthwork, but I was kinda impressed with the heavy bass drop to begin with. Kind of Doctor P esque, I can enjoy that.

DAPT- I love the simplistic drumline man, and the guitarparts are a really nice and original backup for the heavy bass. The way they both meshed was a nice surprise. I also love how in your drops the heavy bassnotes carry off and become more apparent on those longer notes. This is the shit I DO like, keep it up man. Followed!

I have two wips im currently working on, if any of you fellow mellow and minimalistic bassheads wanna take a listen, it would be GREATLAY APPRECIATAYD thanks brohizzles

@cabremusic: Really great groovy beat, very Zomby-esque I'd have said! I think you've done a great jobon the drum processing, all the drums have a great presence and a "raw" feel which I guess isthe sort of sound you are aiming for. I think the thing it is lacking is variation, the development until 2:34 is very nice but I feel like after that it just kind of loses momentum because the bass synth stops. I think you need to continue bringing more elements (more synths, more drum variations if can think of any more) into the song after this point and you'll be on to a real winner!

@npcomp: Damn I love that synth at the start! The drop is nice as well with that hoover bass in the backround. The beat is really nice as well and the higher drums sound nice and crisp, although the thing that I think this track is really missing is more of a bass presence on the kick drum, even after the drop. Going with the hip hop style it certainly needs some more 808 style sub bassyness to it. Also I'm not really a fan of the bass synth that comes in at 1:26. Great otherwise though!

Don't review the track below, it's in my sig.

Hi there!

@ Cabre;
Love the groove on that first one man. I feel it needs a major fat low end to make it pound. Just my cup of tea.
Second one isn't so coherent. Seems like everything has just been placed randomly, I don't know really.

@ Npcompl33t;
Your username is a pain in the ass to write.
Anyway, I'm feeling a old-school fighting game on the PS1 vibe on that one.
Fits right in with some action-game haha.
The track itself really flows and keeps interesting but it just seems like a mix to me.

@ Darkdubz;
Now that's something interesting. Love the synth and the drumprogramming.

@ OfficialDAPT;
Not too fond of that intro snare.
Seems like it could use some pitching up.
Synthwork is pretty sick man. Fuck me that synth on 1:08 is mad!
Nice work man!

@ Mthrfnk;
Everything sounds so muffled with that one synth sticking out way too much.
Could be another technique of mixing or so but I'm not really feeling it, maybe a bit more EQ'ing should do the trick.

@ Kongret;
Lovely intro man.
Synth seems to missing something but I can't really say what and I'm not even sure if it is missing something, if that even makes sense.
All in all nice track!

@ Dotcurrency;
Hey man.
Good technique to make your songs 'longer' without getting them repetitive is thinking in bars.
I usually have a 16 bar intro and I almost ALWAYS add another element or change things up after 8 bars. But you can do this after 4 bars aswell and adding some breaks in it, whatever.
Your synth itself has been drenched way too much in reverb imo, you want to get it as close to the listener as possible if your making this 'riddim' (ye sorry for that one).

All my comments are my own opinions, I'm no master, I'm just stating my opinion on your tracks, no need to think that I'm breaking you down or anything.
As for my track: as always, wrote it in a fairly short time but it gathered some dust after that.

Need a second (or even third) pair of ears on it.

Thank you.

Would listen to this on my free time if you added a bassline.
Also, I wasn't too fond of the synth at 00.43 but it fits well regardless...
Other than that big up.

@AcidRat I like the use of the more realistic drum kit, I would like to hear more cymbals in my left ear though. Maybe pan it a little more centered? The track does feel crowded, but still flows pretty well.

@cabre Very clear mix. Its not my style, but still sounds decent. The kick is rather bizarre to my ears, but I like it. Put some bass in there and leme hear it again!

@cubicle Man I almost wanna start rapping to this track! Very laid back tune. I'm loving the clarity and crispness of everything. The reverb on the snaps is awesome. I'm telling you, I could see someone rapping to that.

Here is my latest track. Al ot of bass. I have some mixing levels that I am aware of, but let me know what you think. Be brutally honest, and please have a constructive response.

Updated track in my sig, still kinda rough. Added guitar and tried to fit melody and growl together, not quite satisfied with the result yet, any advice on that matter will be nice. Finally widened my growls, there was that little bug with ozone imager :6: solo will be added to the last part of the second drop, right now it's just repeating.

Btw, my english still sucks, i'm trying to make sense really hard but sometimes i just don't know the words needed to do that :D

@Ballin
Structure is ok, you have good ideas, but sound is really rough atm.
Sounds are too dry, add a little reverb and delay. Too much mids. At the verse part, vocal should be at the front, lower the volume of the melody and eq your stuff. Your snare fits the verse fine, but drop needs something with more punch at 200 hz. Not sure about the kick at the verse. Not enough bass at the drop!
@AcidRat
Sounds like a big intro to something and it's too repetitive, try to add variety in amounts of energy you dilever. You can try simple quiet-loud-quiet-LOUD(high energy) or something a bit more complex if you want, right now intro and the part after it sound the same, drums do not add much to the overall feel. Snare is overcompressed, kick is too quiet. I like the overall feel you are trying to achieve, imho you need to create a central theme and try to revolve around it.
Ending is nice.
@Cubicle
Sounds sweet and warm, love the vibe. Snare's transient is too loud imo. Not really sure about the breakdown though, sounds kinda empty, copy pasting the intro would do the trick a little better i guess. Delayed voice sample could use a bit more eq i guess.
@cpdwane
Nice video game vibe. Reminded me about final fantasy and stuff :D Nice drums and percussion. I think you should add a melody in higher register to develop stuff in the mid-end of the song, i think short sin with big reverb would do the trick for the sound.

@cubicle - Real nice, chilled out and mellow. Enjoyed listening to it a lot

@cabre - Again, I enjoyed listening to both tracks, really liked the chords on Rain through hollow lenses. Was loving drop the fass too, just found it getting a bit repetitive and wanted it to switch up a bit. Over all good stuff though!

@npcompl33t - Not really my type of thing but I liked how you kept it interesting. The synth line is nice and bouncy and had my head nodding along.

@Kongret - Your drums sound really good. The sub sounds good afte the drop but the mid-bass lacks a little punch. Im not really a fan of the chromatic melody/key changes during the drop - gives it a little to much dissonance imo.

@Ballin - the part w/ the vocals at the beginning sounds pretty good. The mid-bass after sounds flat though - maybe some reverb to help it sit better in the mix or boost the highs on it. Some slight variations on the main riff it plays would help too. The synth line @1:48 is pretty awesome.

@Acid Rat - loving that snare - it sounds a bit to messy once everything kicks in at 0:35 - you need to EQ things around each other a bit so they sit better together and maybe cut the pads a bit once things get going. Your mid-bass sounds a bit dry as well. Some reverb would go a long way to helping it sit in the mix a bit more. It sounds like there might be a cool melody @1:22 but it is buried under the pads and i cant really hear it.The reverse grain thing at the end is kind of a cool idea but it doesnt really seem completely developed yet.

@Cubicle - synths kind of give this song a retro 80s feel - i like the chill vibes tho - nice use of the snap. It seems like there should maybe be something else at 1:35 - it starts to feel a bit repetitive to me at this point - maybe have some filters moving or add some more percussive elements to keep things interesting. I think there is a little to much silence when you cut the track at 2:22 - it almost sounds like the song is over.I really like the drums that come in towards the end of the breakdown part. This is very well produced/mixed so far!

I made this yesterday - i am really liking it but id love to see if anyone here feels it- it is a trap remix of sabatoge by the Beastie Boys.
