What are neighbor jokes?

"my neighbors hate it when I listen to Joe Nice" etc.

not sure who started the jokes, but it was pre-2009 (for some reason I think it was Joe/the chat on subfm), but they became a stupid overused cliche during 2009-2011 brostep phase and now they seem to be making a comeback which i find amusing. goes along with the whole narrative supported by that quote from some factmag article or something that i've seen re-posted dozens of times that goes sumting like "the dust has settled, the bandwagon fans have gone home, the dollar-sign-eyed money grubbers have moved on, and what's left is the true fans who are rebuilding dubstep very similar to how it was in 04-06."

It's kinda cool to see how people are "re-taking" the neighbor joke that was once funny but was killed and is now making a comeback.

I think they mean more in terms of how the scene is rather than being sonically similar, smaller dances in dark rooms, 'eyes down' vibes etc etc...

That said, the quality of tunes in the past 12 - 18 months has been much higher than in recent years, of course there is still a lot of shit about but as long as you look you can find the good stuff, and besides which I'll take boring dungeon shit over obnoxious brostep shit any day of the week

I'm really excited about the state of the scene atm, much more than I was a couple of years ago

they were all over youtube comments when i started following dubstep (2009) until they became cliche and brostep h8 began to take over the comments section on youtube (~2011ish?). i have no idea if it was a thing 2008 or earlier. i followed dubstep pretty much exclusively on youtube until like 2012/2013 when i began following thru fb, dsf, random internet articles/blogs, etc.

the joke is like "this tune is gonna piss off your neighbors cos da BASE is so liek so heavy, bro" or "my neighbors called the police when dis phat base dropped bro." all about DA BASE nothing to do with cats lol.

It's Over, I Lost from Submerse is still a tune. I remember that tune being unsigned and just on his youtube channel before it got picked up by Project Mooncircle. Perfect tune as the weathers going to get a lot colder.
