Seeing as I know who you're on about with the coma-step reference, he seemed to shut up after I asked him what the difference was between people moaning on here and on twitter...mymatedave wrote:choc-ice wrote:http://vimeo.com/20723947
made a video from 6th birthday if anyones interested. obviously the sound is bad and yeh theres some questionable shots (including the bald fwd guy shocking out on his own to some jungle track l o l). amazing night tho!
Hatman needs to calm down!! even if he's not wearing a hat.
I think the main difference is that SOME of the tunes that were classed as 'brostep' were just bad music. Anyone who produces to an average level would probably argue that.
BUT, i left before that started so I cant really comment. Just dont like to see a divide in dmz, it should be a place where the real bass heads unite.
i do love how some people on twitter have now started slating the '2005' generation tho, that was just uncalled for, surely DMZ is the one place the deep 'coma-step' heads belong!!!
(coma-step is not my term, its from the twitter beef)

I thought the exact same thing mate. Ecstasy has killed the 'meditation' vibe, Nothing wrong with being 18, but that vibe is just not something i can connect to dubstep music.wooda916 wrote:
The crowd was so much younger than the other DMZ's ive been to. Seemed to be tons of 18-19 yr olds (not that thats necessarily a bad thing, although in this case it made for a totally different vibe imo), and loads of gurners. Also got offerd MD about 5 times which has never happened to me at DMZ before. It was like a full on rave whereas, for me, DMZ has never been a rave.
from the videos posted it looks like there was actually more space at the front than the back.

Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
I think the space problem stems from the decks being at the other side cause before it got packed round the two entrances and by the decks, but if you went into the room a bit to the back where the stage is, there was always space, but now its the opposite so the back allways gets packed and its effort to move thru the crowd so people just stick there which componds the problem.

Funtcase being played at DMZ just about sums it up for Skream and Bengas set. Room 2 was where it was at, Zed bias, moxie and Horsepower all bought an interesting and varied selection which created a great atmosphere, and the place was vibezing. Zed Bias was the badman of the night for me, and that was defos the most rammed rave ive been to in a long while.

Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
Amazing night aside from the beer and extreme heat turning me into a sweaty incoherent mess.
Vivek and Goth Trad were a highlight. I went in thinking Distance and Tunnidge and Digital Mystikz would be playing the best tracks. Vivek and Goth Trad were up there with them.
Kode 9 and James Blake bought an interesting selection for sure.
Everyone else in room 1 was standardly of high quality too aside from Skream and Benga being a bit too cheesy or on the Circus records style for me at times.
Missed most room 2 unfortunately.
Also if anyone saw a guy with reasonably long hair wearing this shirt http://www.mogio.co.uk/resourcecenter/i ... 059930.jpg
that was me.

Listening to the Skream and benga set now and I would have been going fucking nuts for it.
Yes its a pure dancefloor set. Skream is playing all his recent tear out stuff and I love that sound, I dont think its anything like the big mid range sound people are calling brostep its just harder than just the droney/epic/deep/minimal stuff alot of people like on here. I think you need to have this, and it shows DMZ were covering all corners of Dubstep. so why would they play anything different when the rest of the night looked like it catered for that sound.
I personally hate going to a rave and its the same fucking sound all night, Especially if its not that dancefloor friendly. You got to have some fun geez.

For sure. Even though we only got about half a set it was still probably my highlight of the night.

I think some people are getting a little bit too precious here, don't get me wrong, DMZ is amazing in what it does, perhaps the best, but at the end of the day it it's still only a club night, people shouldn't take it so seriously.
For the record, I was so-so with Skream's set, left just after half way for a smoke and Moxie.
Re: DMZ 6th Birthday?
For my first dmz and my first bass music night in london i couldn't believe how good it was. Queing 2 hours from 20 past 9 was so worth it with that off license doing 6 cans of red stripe for a fiver. Bit of a shame inside that i didnt see any red stripes behind the bar though, is that normal for mass? Venue from the outside looked spectacular. I loved walking up the stairs to be hearing sicko cell being played also.
One of the big highlights for me of the night had to be when dmz came on with anti war dub one of my all time favourites. I hadn't heard of moxie before dmz who i cant remember being on a line-up in Manchester/Brighton but she smashed it! All of the djs played sets i really enjoyed minus skream and benga, i'd seen both of them play at warehouse project in december and the set they played then suited the venue really well. But i don't know i just wasn't really feeling their set hence why i went and saw moxie.
All in all a great experience and such a different mint vibe for a bass music night. Will definetely be attending again.
Just out of curiosity as i've never had the money to travel to fabric from manchester, what does it compare like to a dmz night?
