I like it. Do you have a subline (genuine question, on headphones - can't tell properly) - if not add one in for the low end?

Hey, I've made some growly bassline for my song:
Soundcloud

The problem is, it's kinda missing something.. It doesn't sound full. Any ideas how to make this growl better?

@Edit:
I think I should layer a hi-pitchy growl over this...

nothing wrong with it, its probably because its on its own
when applying it to a full song with nice drums & fx etc it will stand out more.

to get skrillex sound all you need its work hard! his sound it's not only massive its a lot of effects and automations that make this sound.

Okay, soooo here's how I went about this.

Made simple massive patch, using flenders II, saw I, and a sin formant, than used a band reject and band pass filter, automated them with massives lfos, the first one goes on the wave table for flenders, and then use a seperate lfo for the filters, than eq with a few spikes to get the growl.

Dumbed down, its all about experimenting

Needs alot more work if you want that to be a skrillex growl. It's not a bad growl, but it's not a skrillex growl, if u catch my drift? :p

I make the reese in this clip growl sometimes.
All synths are from 3xOsc. Made it on my brother's laptop, so there's no fancy shit or processing other than stock FL stuff

Alrighttt... I went and messed about with me growls a bit. Its really true what they say, go back to the origin of the sound. Spent ages trying to sort the bass with EQ / Modifying the effects chain and kept digging deeper. Reopened the project, tweak some settings in the synth and it now has a bigger bass and some crispier tops. Would love any further thoughts tho..

I don't know why I've neglected to post this... Anyways, here's a tune I did a little while back;

Soundcloud

Drops near 1:30-ish and it contains a pretty nice growl I made.

I made it in Rob Papen's blue, solely because of the cool waveform choices it gives you, other than that it's just basic FM. Most of the sound comes from the processing, which is some EQ modulation, distortion, a bit of filtering etc...

I'd be happy to post a video tutorial with the step by step process, from making the patch; to the post-processing.

Just let me know if you guys want a tut. :)

OK GUYS HAVENT POSTED IN A WHILE AND THIS THREAD IS STARTING TO SUCK!!!!!!

anyway ive been finally making some growls that im very happy with:
Soundcloud

so im here to discuss these growl sounds. i will not be giving patches away because i am about to release an album and i dont want a hundred little hook jrs running around. swirv.

ok so here it goes.

FIRST OFF there are a million ways to make a sound and there is no right way. with that said i think its also very important to not drown sounds in fx. while it is possible to take a sin wave and put so many effects on it that you will be skrillex/killthenoise/feedme/knifeparty i highly doubt any of you have those skills (go ahead and prove me wrong). i highly recommend that instead of using the classic distort filter distort filter method you guys sit back with your favorite synth (they can all do it its not just fm8) and just make the best rich unique waveform sounds that you can before using any fx. if you have a good sound then effects will make it better in the same way that a mixed track sounds better when its mastered then when it isnt mixed at all.
RULE ONE IS MAKE A GOOD SOUND TO START OUT WITH

HOW TO MAKE A GOOD GROWL WAVEFORM: ok so in the growl of the track above there is literally no effects on it. i think i had one harmonic exciter just for a little sparkle in the mix but besides that its 100% good waveform. so im gonna teach you how to make these good waveforms now or atleast the concepts behind it. the basic concept is to have a mid heavy frequency being bunched up towards the first part of a lower waveform. i know that makes no sense but let me explain it better. the voice works by having the vocal chords make a tone. this is the starting tone we are working with (also with that tone there may be air or white noise or w.e idc ur the smart ones LOLOLOL). anyway after that this clean signal gets put through our throat which essentially, when yelling, ring modulates it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_modulation). there are a million waves to go about doing this with any synth so be creative. MODULATE ALL THE THINGS. the goal is to have a mid range frequency that is being modulated in some way by a much lower frequency. use ur brains and make some cool sounds.
getting this waveform to sound good is your highest priority so take your time and just sit around for a couple hours and learn your favorite synth. (MYN IS ZEBRA 2!!!!)

NEXT IS EQING LOLOLOL!!!! take that perfect waveform you just created and slap some EQs on it. for my growl basses i have 4 macro nobs. i have 1 macro nob set to some variation in the waveform. can literally be anything but just get some variation in the sound. macro 2 is the vowel sound. once again a million ways to make a good vowel, but i like to have 1 EQ band going from about 600hz to about 100hz. the next to knobs are just highpass and lowpass. the highpass to make it sound interesting, the lowpass to make it go WOW if i need to.

thats about it. all i want you guys to focus on is getting a good starting waveform instead of all the 3osc bullshit. PEACEYOLOSWAG420

Ok I don't wanna sound negative, but that track sounds disjointed, like there's energy but it needs to be more full on, also the seems to be a fair bit of aggresive treble. Technically it sounds good - especially the growls but sometimes they sound kind of out of place as if they don't flow with the track. I'm not pro and suck a growls but yeah... just my 2 cents... impressive track overall though :W:

Also coming in here saying the thread is starting to suck is a bit harsh, some of the stuff posted over the past few pages sounds quite cool... just because people aren't posting pristine growls doesn't mean they aren't trying. Although admittedly you did post a lot of post a lot of good advice ;-)

first off your critique was bad, but thats off track. i wasnt posting it for an analysis just for an example of some stuff ive made so im not just some random person saying things. i have a little bit of synthesis knowledge.

i was just saying this thread isnt discussing growls as much as just posting them and looking for praise. it really has become a show off your growls thread. thats lame.

my only goal was to provide advice and i accomplished that, so pretend this this thumb is a middle finger :W:
