I dig the epicness of the start. However, I find that the triangle or whatever is too low. I imagined a buildup with a reverb increasing on the piano, I don't know why.
On a pure subjective note, I found that the drop was going everywhere and nowhere, too many different sounds imo.
I really apreciated the breakdown around the 2 mins mark. Around 2:22 you put a a delay and a reverb on the piano, but is it parallel ? It seems to take out alot of the dry signal. Go for parallel if it isn't already the case.

The intro buildup is not exiting at all to me. At a certain point listeners would give their mom to hear what's comming next. Here it's not really the case.
This is not really the type of dubstep I enjoy the most, but I found the drop interesting and the call/reponses were coherent.
RandoRando
Besides the compressor you mentionned, i'd say there's too much reverb. It works nicely sometimes, like at 1:12 or 1:19, it sounds like you're harassed from every side and it's awesome. But overall it's too much, imo the listener needs something to rely on throughout the whole track, and here everything is slippery and "whooshes" in and out. I'm not a native english speaker so I'm not even sure if what I just said makes any sense ahaha.

For my wip, I tried to work alot on bass modulation, and i think it worked out pretty well. About the drums, at the start I would like to give the epic feeling of what I guess is called "piccolo snare", this patriotic drum you can find in any cheesy american army/war-based movie (no offense, I watch them too ahahah). I couldn't find any good sample so I did it myself but i'm not convinced by the result. If you have any tips on that, i'd really appreciate.

@withsler
The intro is very crisp. The breakdown is very old skool. I dig it. I feel the bass need more thickness, if you know what I mean. The last transition is nifty.
@antman
Oh my the drop is extremely fun to listen to. You just have some sharp synths shooting during some of the half beats and silences to make it seem more bug-esque
@LifeOfCows
YES! this is so cartoony in the beginning. And then everything just switched around. That bass is making my brain rip. Maybe split the bass frequencies into high/mid/lows to get more depth and power. It's great man!
Here's a song I've been working on for awhile. A few days ago I was asked my violinist friend if I could add some of my music to her playing the violin. I shown her an instrumental and she dug it so I hit play and she jammed to the song.
I added some effects and other eqing things to her violin because I was recording it off a macbooks built in microphone. But, ignoring that I think it sound rather tasty.
I'm thinking about adding in an acid bass somewhere in the middle of the song, then have the last part-where it gets slower-be the build up for a drop. I was thinking of resampling a reese bass and seeing where that goes.
I would enjoy some feedback on the quality and song structure, if that's cool.
Thanks, broskis!

@Flippity Love the dark vibes combined with the violin. Which plugin did you use for that violin? Love that tune. Gonna follow you on SC....
- Edit... Ok. After rereading your post I'm sure that apples build in mic is awesome
@Faare Faced: I like your selfbuilt sample. Did you use a vst for that or did you record it? It's sound is on spot. Just try to widen your sounds a bit and raise the overall gain next time. Needed to turn up my headphones volume at max and forgot to turn it down again when I switched to the next track... EPIC LOUDNESS
@DJRaynes .... Do you split frequencies?? Sounds like there's still some space to put a nice sine sub under your base.
I started working on this remix yesterday. I couldn't find an acapella nor an instrumental for that song so I eq'ed some frequencies out and tried to get the vocals as clean as possible. I layered again a lot of sounds which makes it really hard to mix down (for me), but it worked out a lot better then last time and I'm quite happy with the result so far
\o/ <--- hands up for epic smiley ^^
I definitely need to refresh my school english
Soundcloud
Oh...haha btw.: I'm always coming up with that melodic stuff inbetween of all your dark and old school vibes
(I like them though)
edit 8/25. : I'm pretty happy with my mixdown and I don't think it's a wip anymore \o/

No plug in, I recorded my friend playing. The only plugins I used were for reverb, panning, eqing, and stuff like that.manudiao wrote:@Flippity Love the dark vibes combined with the violin. Which plugin did you use for that violin? Love that tune. Gonna follow you on SC....

Now, that song of yours is amazing. This will be annoying, but what type of bass are you using. Or, what wave did you use for the oscillators?

The sample is from the Iron Man movie.manudiao wrote: @Faare Faced: I like your selfbuilt sample. Did you use a vst for that or did you record it? It's sound is on spot. Yeah sorry about the gain, but I'm new to production and I'm working on mixing. I've been told it's good to leave plenty of headroom, that's why :)
This epic loudness happens to me aswell, since I crank the speakers volume when working.

@flippity which song are you talking about?? I needed to post my comments in parts because my browser kept crashing. And by the time you wrote your comment I wasn't done with my answer. The one in my signature?
@Faare Faced
yeah I know headroom and stuff. I'm still learning to mix down correctly too and keep my volumes quite low when producing. Moneyshot Thread's best friend ;D But you can raise the gain a bit (or use a compressor for that) before you upload it on SC so it's closer to the "mainstream" volume

Hey all, this is my WIP and incidentally my very first original electronic creation (I did another that used some loops but hey I was just mucking about), I want to make the bass a lot fatter and I'm a total novice at EQing, but I'm slowly making progress. Be gentle I'm still in the baby stages of this stuffSoundcloud

seeing as most people wanted this back in some form here you go. it may or may not be a permanent feature depending on how well it works
please post any unfinished tunes, WIPs, or ideas for full tunes that you want feedback for
any finished tunes posted here will be deleted
*Legend4ry EDIT*
Please give feedback to AT LEAST 3 people before you post your track.. If you don't you'll probably not get feedback yourself. Its just common decency anyways!"

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Hi everyone
. This is the first time I am posting a tune here. It's not finished and I would really appreciate if I can get some feedback on it. This is also my first time making/trying a dubstep so Idk if I got all the elements right
In the DAW tune is peaking at -5 to -4db. I've used a compressor's gain on the master channel to bring the volume to -0.5db before posting here. Is it ok?

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Brothulhu: have yu been signed before ? wow is all I can say, I don't know if its cause I've been lookin about a dark track for sometime now, but It is really heavy of a tune, I like everything about it already, maybe slice up the voice and delay it more before the drop, then take away everything to leave some eerie airy space before the bass comes in so he kicks in the chest more(; haha .. if you ever want to poss collab I'd deffo be interested ..
manudiao: yu made a good mix, I like what you do with the sample you layered, with the phaser, volume automation, and chopping, it keeps the attention up and curious of what happens to make an open ear unsuspecting,,, and your sounds are well mastered and compressed, you got thisss... I don't like brostep, but your track puts it down for me
, the mixdown is just the best jutting fit.. aka perfectoo, the intro was mesmorizing, just great trackk famm..try some other genre's and put yourself into diff styles, yu might like them better (;
Flippity: like everyone told yu before yur violin is addicted, the intro had me in for a feel of a dark track, kind of to old school jungle type feel, its your track so do what you want, I just wasn't expecting the lyrics overdub, but its a nice touch, maybe put some compression on the violin so its an element and not an instrument, so it blends and smooths into the track.. and not sit on top of everything .. and is it suppose to be some type of slowed down brostep,, ???
not sure, its kool though, add more bass, longer intro, and CHANGE UP THOSE DRUMS
im tired of hearing those some old generic drum patterns, and some eq'ing and effects to them ! spice them by changing it , chop them around, add swing to give it a sway and natural feel .. more people in the dub should seriously try to learn to produce hip hop beats, then thats when it starts getting grimeyy ! (:
5 hours yesterday staring and putting serious work into this, .. I like it as of now a lil, got the oldschool Hatcha vibe with a lil bit of Vivek mixed...
