Re: The Down Side of Cubase
use the folder function to link it all together when resampling and moving clips, helped me a bunch
Re: The Down Side of Cubase
Re the midi editing - I think that I can reassign functions of the tools so that I can get the arrow to draw notes, slip notes and delete notes. I'll be a happy midi lad again.
Question re preferences - I've borrowed a cubase rig to test out, and I've started making a grip of changes to the preferences - can I save all the preferences to a file that I can load later if I purchase this behemoth of an application?

yep I'm an Fl user! thanks for explaining that. Never noticed it before, but now that I'm looking out for it...nowaysj wrote:Think I got it! Thanks! So in the vi rack, you would have a lane of a midi track, and a lane of an instrument track for the automation?
Grooki, you're a fl user right? Think I remember that.![]()
One of Fl's major downfalls is that it doesn't do auto plugin delay compensation. This is a big issue! If you have a bass and its routed to two mixer channels for separate processing, and one channel has a plugin that introduces delay (I'd say a majority of pluggins introduce delay, and many powerful plugins introduce substantial amounts of delay, some don't introduce any [like very little a sample or so]), and then you mix the two channels back together, one of the channels will be delayed by the slower plugin. If you have a transient, it will be blurred out in time. Bass can go out of phase. It's just dirty. Fruity can do plugin delay compensation, but its not automatic, and from what I can tell, it is laborious. You basically... wait, I'm not even gonna write how to do it. I don't even want to think about it. Hit the f1 when you've got the mixer up and you can read about it.
Here is a picture of non automatic plugin delay in action. The first hit is a snare, split and routed to two channels then summed. The second hit(s) are with a latency inducing plugin on one of the channels. Notice how the whole hit is late, the peak is vastly different because the transients of the second snare come later than the transients of the first snare.

^ yeah, its an annoying issue I've been trying to avoid realizing for a while now. Kind of like fucking ur sister, you know its wrong, but how can something that feels so good be wrong? Okay, I take that back, its nothing like that.
It's just that everything is so good in fl, but auto pdc is such a major issue. Now if I switch to cubase, maybe I can use some uad cards. Get some proper eq and compression happening.

Okay, got a q 4 u all compassionate enough to keep reading - if you draw a loop in the project page, is there a way to get the cursor to snap to the start of the loop? Like I am listening, I see I've gotta tweak something in bar 6, so I draw a loop, the cursor is already past, anyway to get it to start at the loop rather than continuing on or starting from the last start position?
I can't think of an instance where you would draw a loop, but want the cursor to continue on to some other part of the song.

I don't have time to check at the moment, but in the Transport section of Key Commands, there's a button for this.
Re: The Down Side of Cubase
L button.
I was hoping there was a way so that the cursor automatically starts at the beginning of the loop.
Seems like cubase does nothing 4 u. Of course you want the cursor to start at the beginning of the loop, u just drew the fucker... BUT you can press a series of buttons to get what u want

busted!
moving your stuff after you write your automation strikes me as weird
but hey, I have some "divergent" production habits as well
my friend Nik (Calculon) has always bigg'd you up and while I haven't heard anything from you recently, I am certain you know exactly what you are doing
haha
Nah, pretty sure I have no idea what I'm doing

I don't like resampling that much, and I use automation to make sounds a lot of the time. If I have a 16 bar loop, and the stabs are made using filter sweeps, then I'm gonna have to move that automation...and if I make a separate part with different filter settings, I have to move that automation as well. If I resample, I can't automate those settings throughout the track anymore. It just seems weird that you can't make automation events or have automations follow midi events when every other program lets you, even something as basic as Reason. It's something I'm just gonna have to get used to I guess...still love the program for the most part though.

Oh I think there might be a preference for that actually, but I'm not sure. I have a few buttons mapped that automatically move the cursor to the beginning of the selection, beginning of the loop, and beginning of the tune.
Re: The Down Side of Cubase
If you click on an event and press shift g it will loop that event, and start play from the star of the loop. Not so bad.
I think shift g is my friend.

Re: The Down Side of Cubase
How about when you are copy-pasting is there something that will place the curser at the end? so you can keep pasting it? That kind of annoys me as well.
Re: The Down Side of Cubase
Only downside to Cubase is that I don't have the money to get 5.

Okay tough guys. How do you set up side chaining with a 3rd party vst compressor that supports an external input? (ie like the Sonalksis SV-315 Mk2 ) in c4 mind u.

And I thought u were done with the computers. Get the F outta here.

U follow those other links I posted up re sinking up a tape machine to cubase? Seems exactly like what u'd like to do.

I'm on the case good sir!

And I reiterate this q, cause I've tried to figure this out and some thing with a quad buss or something seems to be the only way in 4.1.nowaysj wrote:Okay tough guys.
