Just fired off my vote to Haack the mack. Here's my notes if anyone's interested.

High Rollin' ~ Sounds fine, builds to a little skank and nice use of the delicate sounds in the pack. Given that it's a 3 minute time limit I would've liked to have had my attention grabbed earlier because by the time the bass drops, you know the song's already halfway over - and if you're going to do that, you'd better make it worth the wait. There's a pretty nice sense of progression here... and when the dutty stuff finally makes an appearance, you wish the song had started at this energy level and gone from there. Missing some dynamic intensity for me, but solid production nonetheless.

Change Places ~ Opens with a quiet, mysterious vibe then unexpectedly tears off the raincoat and lets the big red clown shoes get their boogie on... liking the abstract offness of the beat. Bass sound not the most original thing I've ever heard but that's not a dealbreaker as long as it's done well. Curious about what this artist's other tracks sound like.

Mediterranean Night ~ Was beginning to think that people around here are really into their long intros, especially for a bunch of mofos with time constraints - when around 2:00 into this one I realized it was just that the whole song sounded like one long intro [to me] when I really wanted this to go somewhere, too. Will say, though, that the restraint in this one is admirable compared to all the maximalist jabberwocky in the mainstream right now. Like the fireworks ending a lot too, adds poignancy.

If ~ Interesting that none of the tracks have gone the big bad super-ugly tearout route: most of the songs have gone for more of a chill feel, at least initially. Feel like I can hear some influences in this one too, such as the more musical/melodic electronica from the late 80's & early 90's. This one was OK also but can't say it broke new ground either.

Monkey Tennis ~ Perhaps I'm wrong, but you used to (or still do) produce DnB, right? Nothing wrong with that, I'm an old junglist m'self; the song structure is almost textbook DnB, and if you raised the tempo without changing the pitch it'd be a good DnB song also. I think that at this tempo a little more variation is necessary and that doesn't always mean choppage or random SFX - sometimes, removing a hit here and a beat there achieves more than adding one. This one deserves to be worked on more. The production is also solid, and though it's a very good mix it could use some grit somewhere... too clean/sterile.

Pisslips ~ Most original sound so far, imho (yeah yeah - I know someone's gonna say "nah, that sounds just like _____" but I mean in relation to the other tracks here). Like the bass business and the attention to details. Feels like it almost might fall apart and then magically re-coalesces into a warm, crystalline liquid. Also deserves to be developed further imho because that ending's abruptness hurts. I think I like the use of the samples in this one best.

Quit Complaining ~ An anthem for the haters' choir here on the DSF? Heh. Alright, one more time, more economy would be nice; you've got 3 minutes to make your point, and if you just saunter in like you've got all the time in the world and make us wait to get to the point then you're going to lose us. This one's no exception to that or the general chilled-outness most of the tunes have this time around.

Unfinished Imagination ~ Like Pisslips, very good use of the samples - I like the sounds in this one. I also like the chaotic weirdness but it doesn't quite flow together as one song so much as a series of semi-related parts. It's a fine line (especially for someone going for the organic thing as you seem to be) between a composition that's alive, moving, & dynamic without losing focus, and a composition that's too focused at the expense of the "human touch" element. Keep working on it because you're on to something interesting and I'd like to hear more from you too. In fact, I think a collaboration between you and the producer of Pisslips would be very interesting indeed.

Heh. I try and be as constructive as possible without really dissecting every little thing, but would be happy to go into more detail if you like. And yeah, opinion is a subjective thing - I tend to look for songs that have well developed ideas, then production quality (in that order.) Others tend to listen for dancefloor numbers or tunes that'd fit well into certain kinds of DJ sets or... you name it.
