I actually agree dude, like theres the sort of mainstream shit like bassnectar and skream, which is all bubbles. but then theres the super filth like datsik, cookimonster, and trolley snatcha. then the super chill shit, which I like to call minimal Dub like Distance and Benga.
It would be better to have sub genres so people would know actually what kind of dub you make.

So for the sake of the genre and organization, can this forum please begin the separation of the two?

It sucks when i'm in a corny "loud and filthy" dubstep type of mood, and i can only find the cool and chilled out side of dubstep.
Also vice-versa. When i'm in the mood for the chill side of dubstep, I don't want to be blasted out of my seat by a huge obnoxious drop.

So please, I know there's informal names for the sub-genres, but make it somewhat official by some form of separation?
It's hard for newcomers (sort of like me) to find what we want, because we have no idea what Artists/Labels tend to sound like.

Please consider this, thanks.

Noooo PLEASE NOOOT!

Dubstep is not a scene which is overgrown as like House is! and still, would you go on a party, on which the djs are only deep stuff playing? or would you go on a party, which in the djs are only playing hard shit? i wouldn't! Dubstep is one of the minory genres which have varied sounds and tunes.

yeah you make a good point. deserves to be acknowledged.

why the fuck do people feel the incessant need to label everything with a genre name, just so they can attach themselves to aformentioned genre, and impress other people at parties  ?
don't listen to music because it belongs to some ridiculous fuckin subgenre that you consider yourself an expert in, listen to music BECAUSE IT SOUNDS GOOD.
take it by artists and labels, not genres. there would be so much more diversity if ppl did this, as instead of artists making music to fit into subgenre x, they would be making it purely TO SOUND GOOD.

Quality. I will willingly concede that I was not the first to think of the term dadstep!

My other effort at genre naming was Dillatronica instead of "wonky". Which I have to say I was quite proud of in a dirty kind of way.

The scene really doesn't need to be split into subgenres its growing perfectly fine as it is. Plus alot of artists like to dabble into different styles when they make tunes. For example you could put a skream tune into every "subgenre" if they existed.
And aswell its the artist's sound, like yeh thats Benga's sound or yeh thats Mala's sound, as opposed to yeh thats blah blah dubstep or whatever.
Dubstep is about thinking outside the box and doing something different every time, categorising it into subgenres just wouldn't help. There's already this "brostep" ting on the go and look at all the arguments thats causing already.

confusion is the best thing about this genre. confusion means that people can't digest & consume it easily. the sub-genre thing in dubstep has been debated and talked about since 2005 on this site. its nothing new.

General Discussion = Bro
SNH = Everything else
And how will you inquire into a thing when you are wholly ignorant of what it is? Even if you happen to bump right into it, how will you know it is the thing you didn't know?
