Don't you mean melodish basic a? Which is definitely a word.

It's obvious this guy knows what he's talking about.

What? Mt Eden didn't make "Still alive"? What exactely did he do then?

Regarding "Nobody of you made the tunes he made and I like them, so he is the one I have to thank for it." Are you stupid? Unless I'm horribly misinformed, the guy made these songs, possibly including a shitload of sampling. Still, he did it, nobody else did (get it now, motherfucker?) so credit where credit is due. If he just sampled shit, I'd call this a remix. It appears to me the Dubstep forum consists of a bunch of close-minded, circlejerking cigarettes. Just as DOA. I wonder why production forums always attract son of bitches like you (spare me the comeback, I can think of it myself).

Oh and because it's getting personal anyway: Basic A, I'd prefer ripping my ears out over listening to the shit-boring tune in your sig. In fact, I even made a god awful song with your same retarded 4 note bass "melody". Congratulations! Mt Edens music is at the very least music. Your stuff - utter shite.

Tune battle! Let's see what the masses say then. I'm guessing basic A will toast you but seeing as you're an amazing producer, wow us all. Remember cutoff sent to lfo = wobble.

I'd love to see this.

Feeding trolls, not being opened minded to peoples music tastes, everyone trying to defend their corner..

Its totally what dubstep isn't about and I thought a lot of people on here stayed true to the early vibes of "aslong as you're make it, you're okay with us" despite how good or bad it is...

Granted I am not a big fan of whats his face... I don't even know what hes called! hahaha, I appreciate that hes making the sound and at least making people aware that our genre exists! I mean, sheeeeeeeeit we should be embracing that so many people (including myself) used to push this sound and shove it down everyones throat just so when we went to a night, they'd be more than a man and his dog on the dance floor and this guy single handedly and probably got at least 1,000 people into the sound and this forum and now everyones trying to banish anyone whos not conforming to what they think is "right"?

Like I said, I am disapointed.

And yeah I got things to do today.

What exactly did Mt. Eden do the original besides loop it and add a snare and a wobble?

My problem isn't that his stuff is badly produced, it's that it's badly produced AND he didn't write a note of the melodies in his songs (which is what everyone likes about him in the first place). Has he ever written an original song?

Also, by not labeling a lot of his tracks as remixes (which they clearly are as he goes wayyy beyond standard sampling of the originals) is misleading.

My 2 cents.

P.S.: this thread could be benefited by some civility. Play nice, boys!

Yeah, you've got a point I s'pose.

I'm not close minded, I'll listen to a broad spectrum of music; from Alicia keys<3 to the pixies through to aphex twin.

But I just can't stand brilliant artistry being destroyed and bludgeoned. For instance Mark Ronson destroyed many a good song and now the masses think "stop me if you think that you've heard this one" is by Ronson as well as many other raped classics.

I'm getting annoyed because there are some brilliant artists around yet they never get recognised.

But I guess that's life.

No song battle. I can't stand the attitude that you have to be better at something to express dislike. If this was the case, I'd have to eat shit all day because I can't cook anything. I'm just saying Basic A's music doesn't even remotly appeal to me while Mt Eden's does.

@collige: Sorry, can't listen to the original, Sony bla bla not available. I haven't checked any of the tunes he supposedly took the melody from and shoved a snare under (but I take your word), and if this is the case, it is actually a bit weak. I still have to say, his melody-with-snares sounds good to me and that won't change. What about "Still alive"? Does the same apply there, too?

@Assassin: I'm not quite sure what my opinion on this is. If people like the destroyed versions from Mark Ronson and not the original one, why hate? I mean you might like the original more but it seems like people like his remixes more, I don't get why remixing is considered bad. Even if it's just a change to a different beat, if I as the listener think a Dubstep beat fits the rest of the song more, so be it.

The original Still Alive. He did more to it, but I still stand by what I said in my original post.

Another link to the original Sierra Leone. The main bit is at 1:30.

I'm not denying that the snare-melody formula is appealing, but Eden isn't the first or the best to do it (check out Kode9 - 9 Samurai or Joker - Stuck in the System). It's just really annoying that several hundred thousand people think that Eden is a great composer when he's really just artistically lazy.

I mean, he used another dubstep remix of the same song for Hide & Seek! Come on!

When did I say remixing is bad? He brought those songs to a new audience, but that's all he can do. Bring them to a new audience, with phenomenal promo money.

But it still winds me up to hear those horrible trumpets playing over his version of "just" by radiohead.

This is a place I come to vent when I'm vexxed about something, happy about something or I'm enjoying something. It's a forum where I can discuss new ideas. And if I can't do that without being told to shut up moaning then what is the point in conversation or forums at all? I'm pretty sure telling someone to stop moaning basically means, "I can't defend my corner because I have run out of ideas".

But whatever, music is all subjective anyway. Mainly to what you heard as a child, hence why record labels pay huge money to get on main radio stations and get into magazines and tv shows.

I think we have a completely different view on life;

a) Money to me isn't important
b) Grammar to me is important
c) Music is more than just a chain of random notes with no emotion

Your opinion is as valid as anyone's.

But as Superhans(from Peep Show) said about the masses:

"People voted for the sizan and listen to Coldplay. You can't trust people Jeremy"

Superhans has a lot of intelligent things to say about the music industry.

They're all a bunch of 'Marks', sitting behind their desks with their ties done up to 11, clicking their fingers to The Lighthouse Family whilst getting their dicks sucked by Alsations

I could give two shits about him knicking samples, it's the fact that he chose the WORST snare imaginable. The beat is just so lifeless and the snare hits and it sounds like someone throwing a tennis ball against a wall (in a massive gym mind you).

No mate you fucked with the 'melody' of a tune in which I actually PLAYED my own guitar samples to FURTHER MANIPULATE. If youd have politely said 'Basics tunes dont appeal to me' or w/e the hell you justified that shite as w/e, but lemme inform you that BASSLINE and MELODISH or whatever you are calling melody, are two different things.

And how bout the fact I didnt SAMPLe anything in that tune, not even a drum hit? Lets put that, me playing my guitar and writing with theory I understand and putting MY feelings into a tune, to mt eden, who himself admitted his tunes are 'nothing personal'. He samples dude. Thats what he does. He samples well known loops. He didnt write that. Quit acting like he did.

And fact is, though the bassline is simple, its a tri with incidents i.e. = musci theory. More then your hero Mt Eden can say about that wank.

And as mentioned, Id be mroe then happy to outproduce your shit any day of the week.

I even make brostep too.

Basic, he criticised your song to get on your nerves. I'm surprised he didn't say anything about mine. Maybe I should delete it if he likes it?

It's pretty clear you'd shit down his neck in a tune battle because he's probably new and doesn't really get it.

However if he is calling you - a producer - out on a production forum, shouldn't he really have the cajonas to back his shit up?

It's different saying something is shit to telling someone they are shit.

@ Asassin, yeah man, he should have to balls, but, he doesnt even have to balls to make a pos twihtout trying to cover his errors in the one before or claiming hes to f*cked up to be held for his actions... therefore, its no wonder, first sentence out of his mouth 'no I dont want to lose a tune battle with Basic' or w/e he said.

He said by my logic he'd have to eat shit all day because he can't cook.

To carry on this metaphor he is eating shit because he chooses to and part of the reason is that he's never tasted anything better than shit.

Hence why there are so many people that do eat shit food, listen to shit music etc.

Mt. Eden is the mcdonalds of dubstep.

Everything lacks flavour, is poor and copies another persons recipe badly.
