as far as i can tell it's kinda like sumthing i went to last year called 'the big green gathering' near brizzle only on a bigger scale. it's not really big stages, or big soundsystems, just little tents playing live music or dj's, and a shit load of healing stuff and loads of nudists. and just generally your own little city for a week...i didnt have a good time, but if i was with a phat crew of mates then i think it would be quite nice and relaxing rather than boring!!!

dont agree with a bunch of crusties thinkin they are changing the world tho, fuckin trustafarians!!!!!!!

@ Rob noble. If you really want to make a genuine change why don't you invest the time you spend preparing for BM on something worth while. Lke charity work or volunteer work for disadvanged people or petition you MP, and whilst your at it get the other 32000 people at BM to do the same. Opting out will never change any thing. I don't really want to flame you or burning man but, what you wrote was at best nieve and idielistic.

"The point is to change it".
very valid point! actually i am head of new construction sells providing "Built Green Certified" materials for commercial and residental buildings (check out http://www.builtgreen.net/). I also work with the lawyer of Cannabis Culture, NORML, High Times, and other hemp and cannabis orginization to help push NOT the consumption of the planet, but to use it as an alternitive to cotton wich uses 1000 of pesticides and germicides, and paper, building materials, and the other 1000's of use the plant has.

I totally agree with you, whats the point of having any belief unless you live by it.

the previous post was more or less was a result of shock from Misk and his post who i know shares the same views and opinions and we actually chatted about this off board and have came to a understanding on both our ends.

Burning Man is just another outlet and social experminet the generates nothing but hope for me and others.. its not going to change the world by any means, but maybe a few minds.

The Wiggle Baron wrote: Oh, and whoever that was who said they were part of the solution. How dare you take credit away from people (no way including myself here) who are ACTUALLY putting their life towards making a difference when all you've done is used fuck knows how much fuel travelling from Seattle to Nevada or whatever it is to then use even more powering massive sound systems for you to have a good time to.
I really agree to that statement, but unfortunately its hard to travel on alternitive fuel options while driving in rural places. They sell bio-diesel in citys but not around those lands. Electric cars are a pain in the ass, and hybrids still require gas. The best method i've found is what my girlfriend used to drive and that was a car that ran off propane. Her dad set it up and it ran very clean and efficently, but i guess there are states with strange laws saying its illegal to sell it as fuel for cars or somethin on those lines.

I don't drive because of choice in town, but i do take the bus which still uses oil. We do take in account that fact that at the time being we need to consume oil to travel there, but we make sure every seat is accounted for in every vehical and drive the most gas efficent cars that our group has and load everything into one trailer so we aren't all bring large gas guzzlers.. I truly hope one day we won't have to consume oil.

i ment in no way to sound like burning man is the solution to anything or to sound prestigious and say that i have all the answers. I just was trying to share some of the things i've learned through attending this event and through years of research that i incorporate into my daily living habits to the best of my ability. I mean no drama, just another side of the story.

Respect in that case. Your chest :D It's pretty hard to not come off all preachie if you feel you've been put in a defencive position. And also it's a forum and it's very easy to not do justice to your believes when you write them down in the spure of the moment But, yeah your chest. :Q:

If I understood this correctly, it's short for "big up your chest". For instance:

Look at my man bigging up his chest
Looks like he's trying to grow some breasts
Stop that, before you get an archback
I dunno who my man's tryin to impress

[/JME]

or

"This is a baaad tune, your chest!"

Basically it's an acknowledgment of a person's qualities or abilities, whatever they may be, and an encouragement to display them more and put them to use, as in the latter. It can also be used about a person trying too hard, as in the former.

Just to be clear: 'Your chest' is short for 'big up your chest' but that has nothing to do with breasts, its a big manly chest (yeah?). Hmmmm....

Your chest in advance to anyone to can put a finer point on this one

Yes, ill be there again along side Rob and a whole slew of creative artists,dj's,producers, performers, doctors, scientists, & Humans of all types.. I feel it is a movement of sorts, but also a energetic vortex, a place where people can explore, express, create and inspire.. I have been blown away every year i have attended by different expressive efforts by all walks of life, sure there are people or things i may not personally agree with but the Synergy and Comedy that happens there is priceless!!!
All types of Music,Art,People, and alot of Dust... Its definatly not for the weak of heart!! It is a challenge to be prepared for this event. The conditions can be harsh so if you've never been camping or anything before...you may be in for a ruff one... but either way an experience to live with...

It's all about the energy everyone brings to contribute. To me thats what creates a general feeling community @ Burningman.
Sure there are spectators, law enforcement and people who come to prey on that environment..
But this event is a city of 35,000+ people in the desert for a week.Of coarse your going to have all different types of people..

This year a lot more environmental consciousness & technology will be introduced.Should be Crazy as ever!! It's interesting to hear everyones opinions on this topic.. I played and heard alot of Dubstep there last year and will be doing so again..Goodtimes!!

Yes Dak hit me up when you get in SF again.. missed you last year but it seems you must have enjoyed yourself enough to come back over again.. Respect to those who know or have been to form their own opinion..If your coming for your first time this year Look up the MOONBASS once your there!! Gonna be big no doubt!!
peace!!

i'll go to burning man this year without a doubt. i'll also be going to bonnaroo.

it doesn't really matter to me alot of what's been said so far. i've only been out to a few festivals in my lifetime, the ones that stick out the most was lollapalloza when i was 12 and bonnaroo which was last year. everything else was pretty much commercial music concerts with large rosters.

some of the people may be richies and crusties and everything in between. that's not what matters. what matters is that once you are there, you are kinda free from the general pretensions and restrain of everyday life. that's what makes events like this way different than anything else. it truly is spiritual.

there's something about gathering and becoming acquainted with friendly strangers who have no intention of harming you or one-uping you that really appeals to me. the general feel for things like this is the fact that damn near everyone there seems to flow on one general positive consciousness.

if you are to attend an event with such a vibe and "don't feel it", then i kinda feel sorry for you - for you are missing out on the good things in life. it truly is a beautiful scene. fuck what you heard or read, there's nothing like it. bonnaroo was so live last year that i'm actually dragging my ma dukes down there to experience how dope it is this year. she has no idea what's about to pop off.

and regardless of the "youre using gas to get there, capitalist blah blah blah, youre a contradiction" bullshit goes - sorry, we're american. we can't help but become a part of a system and work with this system as such. it might be evil, but we have to work with it to work against it. you might be in a ball in a maze trying to get from point a to point b, you might not like the maze, but you have to use it to get out.

and with that said, using whatever forces and resources necessary to spread positive vibes to however many people will be worth it. it's a hard, wicked and sad road when you're a slave to the capitalist system. you're born, you're brainwashed and educated to a certain extent by a government, then you work at whatever job you as a wheel in the system makes good with till you die only to be replaced by another cog.

what's sadder is the people who accept this fate and do nothing but work and sleep. these types of festivals are nice to escape this stark reality and to know and meet and have fun with others who also feel this way - to join as one and to gain positivity and spread it around to everyone around them.

these people using these resources hauling soundsystems and dj's around are making a contribution whether you believe it or not. from the fwd>> parties to burning man, these things breed positivity. were it not for such events, the world would be an even more horrific place.

[edit] i see some of you plan on going to this festival. send me a pm, i'd love to get up with and smoke a bowl withcha

Fuck yea Moon bass sounds fucking epic will soo be checking it out on the playa this year. A swamp cooler... you guys are ingeneous, that will go down reeeeeal nice. do you know the address of your camp this year?

djunya - will prob be coming over to SF with Dak attak so would be cool to tag along and come hang out or whatever

its funny when burning man comes up on forums, i just asked if anyone knew of any dubstep camps on the playa and came back a few weeks later and all the politics are here hahaha to be expected of course. If you dont make it to the desert, seriously you are missing out.

So i made a post on eplaya (burningman forum) aswell wanting to know the camps so, if your going might be good to make a post there - http://eplaya.burningman.com/viewtopic.php?t=19246

if you wanna talk more burning man shit or wanna know what other people have to say, eplaya is a real good place to go - http://eplaya.burningman.com/index.php
