I really wanted them to be, but they're just slightly too dancefloor-cliche for it to work for me. it doesn't feel like a work of art, which an artist lp should always feel like, a la Burial, FlyLo, Underworld, and all the other current great EDM artists. it feels like more of a series of audio adverts on a cd.
exactly.. people fucking love that shit. pretty sure this isnt a 'concept' album but a 'lets make a few pop tracks that we can enjoy ourselves' album...
these boys have worked hard for years and deserve some platinum singles and financial security out of it... not their fault most people dont like innovative music...

and as far as pop music goes, what ive heard from them is at once technically and conceptually superior to normal radio play. that katy perry reference lends ae particularly telling example of this: magnetic man have scored a top 10 hit off a song about maybe needing to go outside for a bit of fresh air rather than a song about experimental teen bisexuality.

and fwiw i really doubt that paul lester knows anything about electronic music. wish all the pretentious tnuc music critics could stick to reviewing stuff with guitars...

can't say i'm feeling magnetic man as much as i'd like - horses for courses - but the reviewer does come across as a total prick.
He danced for eighteen hours staring straight into the sun, until at length a great vision came... He believed the world was made of shadow and that he could dream himself into the real world that lay beyond...

this guy sounds like a tnuc. in my opinion i need air is one of the most clever dubstep tracks i've heard since some of horsepower productions stuff in that it's just really interesting and new. it's a perfect crossover hit - fucking ace rhythms/percussion and a good deep vibe while still being melodic and catchy as fuck. the whole atmos that's built in that track is ace. if he can't at least appreciate how well made/written the track is (whether he likes it or not is a different matter) he doesn't deserve to be a music journalist.

that said tho his latest work on Pink was truly amazing. She really does make the most deep meaningful music doesnt she? The biography truly lends an amazing backdrop to songs such as "Coz I Can" and "Stupid Girls" that really allow you to flesh out their deeper meanings.

Is anyone else sick of the rock and roll critics who still have jobs from the 70's reviewing music that they have no cultural connection to? This guy obviously has never been to a rave or any electronic music show for that matter. Now him reviewing the latest rolling stones compilation and analyzing the track selection is fair play. he probably did drugs with those back in the day(not him actually, but for illustrative purposes...) and has a real connection to that rock and roll culture. i think that's the real reason electronic music didnt catch on in a big was in the states in the late nineties. Fuckwits at the rolling stone simply had nothing to compare groups like the chemical brothers to(the only group save for the prodigy that i ca think of ATM that had a shot at mainstream success in the US) and because of this, dance music in general has been ignored for the most part.

just a little rant

Probably thinks dubstep is halftime drum n bass and has no idea that frequencies below 150hz exist.
